The President came up with the directive as envoy to Libya, Major General Abul Hasnat Muhammad Khairul Bashar paid a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban here, president's press secretary Md Joynal Abedin told BSS after the meeting. The Head of the State asked the envoy to highlight various potential sectors, including trade and investment, of Bangladesh where the Libyan investors can invest. The Minister of Economy and Trade, Mohamed Al-Hwej, met a delegation of Turkish businessmen headed by the Chairman of the Libyan-Turkish Business Owners Council, Murtaza Karanfil, at the Ministry’s office last Wednesday. The Ministry said the meeting comes as a continuation of the Istanbul meetings of 18 May, to strengthen economic ties and networking between business owners and investors in both countries. Both sides discuss cooperation across a variety of sectors including energy, health and trade.

The Interior Minister of the Libyan Government, Major General Issam Abu Zariba, described the recent events in Zawiya west of Tripoli as shocking and painful for everyone, commenting on a military operation launched by the Government of National Unity (GNU) in Zawiya, for what it said was targeting the hideouts of smugglers, drug dealers and human trafickers.
