Speaker Bhofal Chambers has warned against voters trucking during the ongoing biometric voter registration exercise across the country. The speaker added that voter trucking undermines development, which is driven by population. “Politicians who are in the habit of trucking voters are only doing that to get power; they are not in the interest of the people,” he said. The undemocratic practice of said voter trucking, he noted, only imposes leaders who aren’t the choice of the residents of the county they have been trucked to. It can be recalled that during the 2017 general and presidential elections, Speaker Chambers won with 7,858 votes, which constituted 57.3%.

Joe Biden announced his re-election bid on Tuesday, but there are real questions about which legislative accomplishments he’s touting—and which ones he’s not. Biden likes to invoke the legislation that made projects like these happen: the sweeping clean energy-focused Inflation Reduction Act, the $1 trillion Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, the high-tech manufacturing-boosting CHIPS Act. Those three bills are poised to be pillars of Biden’s case for a second term. But there’s a fourth pillar that often seems forgotten—the one that made these specific projects, and many others, possible. Lawmakers and prominent officials have spent much more time touting recent bills like the Inflation Reduction Act and CHIPS Act.

MONROVIA – The much-trumpeted resolution of the People’s Unification Party (PUP) pledging support to the re-election bid of President George Weah violates the party’s constitution, and as such, it is null and void, said Representative Samuel Kogar, Chairman of the PUP. In the announcement, the PUP, through partisan Morris Barbay announced the party will only support the President, but not joining the President’s party- Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC). The decision raised eyebrow as some of the party’s top officials including its national chairman, Rep. Kogar, were absent and did not affix their signatures. Without mentioning the conveners, Rep. Kogar said they, apparently at behest of the Governing Council, went ahead with the meeting and adopted a resolution; a move he said, violates Section 7.2 of the party’s constitution. But like Rep. Kogar, some members distanced themselves from their party’s decision saying their action was not the general decision of the party, whose founding father was a fiercest citric of the Weah-led government.

The issues the Ambassador raised in his statement are not strange to Liberians. Another six years of a Weah administration would severely damage Liberia’s credibility in the international community and leave Liberians stuck in a cycle of poverty and suffering. My administration will get Liberia back on track by building functional systems to ensure a functioning public service.
