According to the 2025 World Universities Rankings released on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, Kenyatta University now leads the country, leaving UoN grappling with its sliding global and regional position. Kenyatta University performed better in teaching, earning a score of 14.2 per cent, compared to UoN's 12.5 per cent. A lobby has petitioned the High Court challenging an agreement reached by the government with Indian firm Adani Group for the construction of three transmission lines and two substations. The Commission for Human Rights and Justice says due process was not followed prior to the Public-Private Partnership Agreement. It seeks to have the court issue an order directing ketraco to conduct extensive public participation with regard to the agreement. The commission alleges that the said decision undermined the principles of transparency, accountability, and public participation. Secondary schools might be forced to close ahead of schedule as the government has not released the full capitation funds due to schools for this year. The Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (KESSHA) has now sounded an alarm, saying schools are unable to purchase the necessary supplies for the forthcoming Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations and end-of-year examinations for learners in other classes. “There’s already a serious financial crisis in schools and it is not possible to complete the term, if the remaining capitation is not released.
