That quorum hitches in the National Assembly have now become a common occurrence making it difficult for the House to transact its business is no longer unique. The quorum hitch came just hours after the House raised 326 MPs of the 349 members minus the four vacant slots to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. “There being no quorum, the House stands adjourned until 2:30 pm today,” directed Ms Boss as the House suspended the morning sitting. Mr Wetang'ula, having had enough of the hitches, turned the heat on the office of the House leader of majority. When the House adjourned on Wednesday last week, there were barely 20 members in the House.

I hate to say this, but it wasn't bad! I'll even proudly declare that I actually liked it once I got past the jarring first sip. Probably not, but I found the saltiness of the brine, the sweetness of the Diet Coke, and the slight spice of the jalapeños somehow just...worked? As a matter of fact, my biggest complaint was that it could've been spicier, but that's on me (and Target's misleading "HOT" label). I did start craving my OG Diet Coke after a few sips, though — the saltiness plus the aspartame taste started to get a little old.

Lawyers representing Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua have poured cold water on the impeachment motion before the Senate, saying it does not meet the threshold. According to Elisha Ongoya, the evidence presented by the mover of the motion is not only false, and ridiculous but also embarrassing. “Those of us who understand this motion for what it is, understand why these panel-beating manoeuvres are being tried here,” he said. In submission, Ongoya cited the claim in which Gachagua has allegedly interfered with the KTDA reforms. He also wondered how the DP could dragged into the renovation of his residence yet the National Assembly approved money for the purpose.

Senate Speaker Amason Kingi has yet again dealt a blow to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in his attempt to stop the House from relying on new evidence tabled against him. The affidavit by Muchira is on the alleged sale of Olive Gardens Hotel. “The allegation that I own the Olive Garden Hotel is false,” Gachagua told MPs. He claimed that Gachagua approached him on or around March 31, 2023, and convinced him to buy the Olive Garden Hotel. The documents in question, he stated, does not constitute new evidence but form evidence in support of an allegation which was already made.

The US policy in East Africa is increasingly becoming a choice of pragmatism versus straitjacket approach to the issues of democracy and human rights. It is an obligation fundamental and paramount to human dignity and human respect." “The Secretary underscored our shared democratic values, including on implementation of the public anti-corruption and police accountability commitments President Ruto undertook in response to recent protests,” said Mathew Miller, US State Department Spokesperson. Later, the US sent in Uzra Zeya, Under Secretary of State for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights, to emphasise the point on civil liberties, and impunity and corruption. “The US and the UK have had some kind of monopoly in training security forces in most countries across Africa.
