The National Youth Service has been contracted to complete six community projects in Elgeyo Marakwet county which stalled for decades after the construction of the Chebara dam. The community projects are estimated to cost Sh650 million and the NYS is expected to complete works within 90 days. The projects include Chebara Boys High School, Chebara Girls High School, Kaptomut Primary School, AIC Chebara, Chebara Youth Polytechnic and a cattle dip. Area MP Timothy Kipchumba welcomed the NYS team and said the projects would be of great benefit to his constituents. He expressed hope that the NYS will complete the projects as scheduled to enable the learners to study in a conducive environment for learning.

President William Ruto on Sunday, January 21, revealed that he would push for the creation of Teso County which he stated will be carved from Busia. Speaking at a political rally in the region, Ruto stated that it was not easy but as Head of State, he would lobby for the case. The issue of the creation of Teso County has been a contentious issue in the region and it was evident during Ruto’s visit as he was interrupted mid-speech to respond to the request. The creation of Teso County and Saboti County (to be carved from Trans Nzoia) were some of the recommendations made to the National Dialogue Committee by residents of the respective areas. An alleged stalker was pictured being arrested after trying to break into Taylor Swift’s New York City apartment. Police apprehended the man in Tribeca on Saturday morning (January 20) after he failed to gain access to the Cruel Summer singer’s home. He was later taken into custody on an active warrant for failing to answer summons from 2017, the NYPD told DailyMail.com.
