John-Allan Namu, the co-founder of investigative media house Africa Uncensored, has been named winner of the 2024 International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) Knight International Journalism Award among three other journalists for his reporting that revealed how city police inspectors are using violence to extort bribes and a story on criminal gangs preying on residents of biggest slums in Nairobi, Kenya. Along with Mr Namu, the other winners are Ukrainian investigative reporter Valeriya Yegoshyna for the same ICFJ Knight International Journalism Award and Rana Sabbagh, an investigative editor from Jordan, the 2024 ICFJ Knight Trailblazer Award recipient. “These journalists stand out for their brave work exposing abuses of power, in places where it is both highly challenging and dangerous,” ICFJ President Sharon Moshavi said. “Undeterred by threats, he has courageously covered numerous public interest stories that have positively impacted people’s lives in Kenya and beyond. More than 80 people are believed to have died after a boat carrying them capsized in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the country’s president Felix Tshisekedi has said. According to Rita Bola Dula, the governor of Mai-Ndombe Province, where the disaster occurred, night sailing partly caused the overcrowded boat to sink. Deadly boat accidents are common in the DRC, where vessels are frequently loaded well beyond their capacity. Local media reports say Coca-Cola sales have declined by about 23% in Bangladesh since the Gaza war. "If cringe-fest has a literal face, it would be this ad," said Jumanah Parisa, a student of Brac University in capital Dhaka, "If this ad doesn’t hurt Coke sales, I don’t know what will." On Wednesday, an online shoe shop in Bangladesh put out an ad in protest, showing a bottle of Coke being kicked by a man wearing its shoes. Abdul Al Nayan, marketing manager of ZIS, told Al Jazeera they made the ad to express solidarity with the Boycott Coke movement. Rahman said there is a widespread notion among the common people in Bangladesh that Coke "directly funds some of the Israeli entities".

In a statement, LoDDCA requested President Salva Kiir’s administration to provide a military escort to trucks to minimise insecurity incidents. Additionally, LoDDCA asked truck drivers to strictly operate during the daytime when traversing South Sudan. While asking truck drivers to be diligent while operating in South Sudan, the drivers were asked only to operate between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm. Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has hit out at his critics, telling them he will not shy away from being proud of his tribe. "Everybody should be proud of your origin and identity, nobody should ever make you feel embarrassed about your origin and identity,'' Gachagua said. Speaking when he addressed the Pharmaceutical Society of Kenya International Conference in Mombasa on Wednesday, Gachagua said he will always retreat to the village after work. "I don't want to say a lot, I want to go to Nairobi briefly then I go to the village,'' he said. Bio Foods is working closely with milk farmers and their cooperatives to address challenges affecting the quality of dairy products. Bio Foods Chief Executive Officer Joachim Westerveld told the Star that the company has managed to turn around the dairy sector because of its proactive measures and interventions. The numerous challenges, he said, remain a major threat to boosting farmers' earnings and securing the health of consumers. Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has revealed some of the members of a team formed to address grievances raised by former President Uhuru Kenyatta. Uhuru on Monday claimed that he had been denied some of his benefits as stipulated by the Retirement Benefits Acts. Kuria revealed that the team members include Interior CS Kithure Kindiki, him and Police IG Japhet Koome. The Head of Public Service has been tasked with ensuring that complaints related to Uhuru's staff are addressed.
