Aboitiz Equity Ventures Inc., or AEV, has formally completed its acquisition of minority stakes in Coca-Cola Beverages Philippines, Inc., or CCBPI, under a $1.8-billion cash joint venture deal with Coca-Cola Europacific Partners, or CCEP. The listed company announced on Friday through a stock exchange disclosure that the transaction had been completed as early as 23 February—just about half a year after the deal was first announced in August 2023. A joint venture company called CCEP Aboitiz Beverages Philippines Inc., or CABPI, duly incorporated on 13 December 2023, was responsible for carrying out the transaction. AEV first announced the deal in August 2023. On the other hand, the AEV of the Aboitiz family has major investments in power, banking and financial services, food, infrastructure, land, and data science and artificial intelligence.

The body of marathoner Kelvin Kiptum has left his Chepsamo home for the Chepkorio showground where a funeral service is set to be conducted. The hearse carrying the body of Kiptum is accompanied by a convoy of vehicles of family members, relatives, security and church leaders. Security has also been enhanced along the way from his home to Chepkorio centre which is about six kilometres. The body of Kiptum was removed from Eldoret Hospital morgue Thursday and escorted to Iten where the public had an opportunity to view. The public was scheduled to get another opportunity to view the body before the service began.

In a victory for people serving sentences in prisons and detention centres, Justice Lawrence Mugambi said prisoners had a right to be treated humanely, including being allowed to attend the funerals of their loved ones. However, the judge said the right was not absolute and the request could be denied depending on the circumstances.
