Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s decision to wage war against illicit alcohol is a welcome initiative. He deserves the support of the entire nation because alcohol addiction poses a threat to millions of young men and women. The wide ranging draconian alcohol fiat announced last week in which all licences were suspended is a step in the right direction. Even though the DP's key focus is on Mt Kenya youth, there are other silent drug problems in most parts of the country that deserve national attention. Gachagua should broaden his target and save the future of Kenya even as he builds a platform for future political campaign.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has announced that the deployment of 1000 police officers to Haiti is in the pre-redeployment phase. The Interior CS went on to say the Kenyan officers will lead a multi-national security mission that will include troops from other countries. During the conversation, the two leaders underscored their commitment to the deployment of a Multinational Security Support mission to Haiti and ensuring free and fair elections are held in the Caribbean nation. The Kenyan officers were set to be deployed in February but the High Court blocked it saying it was unconstitutional. Kenya and Haiti on March 1 signed an agreement formalizing the deployment of 1,000 police officers to the North American nation.

On the afternoon of December 6, 2018, John Maina Wang’ombe fed his children fruits as usual while they waited for their mother to return and prepare lunch. After the children finished the fruits, Wang’ombe took a weighing stone and crushed Wanja's head before moving on to Wangui and strangling her. To make matters worse, Wang’ombe then used a knife to inflict more injuries on the already unresponsive minors. The court heard that Wang’ombe was enraged after his wife attended an interview at the nearby school against his wishes. Also, the court noted that the circumstances of the case pointed to the fact that Wang’ombe inflicted fatal injuries on the two minors.
