JSS tutors sacked two days after calling off strikeThousands of junior school teachers on contract have been sent home two days after calling off their strike. The Nation has seen copies of some of the letters issued to the teachers by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) yesterday, citing professional misconduct as the reason for the termination of the contracts. Last month, the TSC had issued show-cause letters to 7,357 teachers. The 38,863 teachers the TSC hired on contract were deployed to junior schools, 6,000 to primary, and 450 to secondary schools. The Employment and Labour Relations Court agreed with them that the commission only has powers to employ teachers on permanent terms and not as interns.

President Lazarus Chakwera on Tuesday announced that the plane that was carrying Chilima was found and everybody on board was confirmed dead. The plane was unable to land at the airport due to poor visibility and was ordered to return to the capital, President Chakwera said in a televised address to the nation.

Normal operations have resumed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) said in a statement Tuesday afternoon that the runaway which had been closed is now operational. "The disabled aircraft has been recovered from the runway and normal airport operations have resumed. Thank you for your patience and cooperation," the authority said.
