President William Ruto’s administration is taking another shot at merging state agencies to cut wastage, in what could see up to 130 enterprises affected in the IMF-backed move. National Treasury has also begun privitasation of government-owned enterprises whose mandates “are no longer relevant”. “The government is committed to implementing policy changes to ensure government-owned enterprises realize their full potential,” the CS said. In 2023, the Cabinet approved the Ownership Policy for Government-Owned Enterprises, a key governance reforms framework. Some of the ministries with a high number of state agencies include agriculture, transport, tourism, energy, industrialization, trade and enterprise development, and sports, culture and heritage, which could face a major rationalisation.

Kalonzo to take up official opposition role: Ichung’wahNational Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah has hinted at a plan by President William Ruto to have Wiper party boss Kalonzo Musyoka become the official leader of opposition, a position proposed in the National Dialogue Committee (Nadco) report. The plan, the Kikuyu MP revealed, entails a commitment by the government to ensure Azimio la Umoja One Kenya leader Raila Odinga lands the African Union Commission chairperson position. “The elections are behind us.We defeated Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka. We are also making plans for Kalonzo to become the leader of official opposition. Mr Musyoka, who co-chaired the Nadco talks with Mr Ichung’wah, is among Azimio leaders who have been pushing for the implementation of the report.

HANOI: A strange species has been discovered in Hung Cave within a strictly protected area of the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park in the Vietnam's central province of Quang Binh, Vietnam News Agency reported Monday (June 17). According to the Jungle Boss' cave exploration team, this species was found scattered on the surface of stalactites in Hung Cave, approximately 300m from the cave entrance. Le Luu Dung, Jungle Boss director, said images of this creature had been sent to professional cave exploration groups, but no one has seen it before. It might be a new species in the core area of the national park and requires more in-depth research, he said. Nguyen Van Long, director of the provincial Forest Protection Department, said he had never seen this species before either, adding that the images of this creature will be sent to experts in biology for their consultation.
