KOTA KINABALU: A 35-year-old man perished in a morning fire at his house in Sabah’s east coast Sandakan district on Sunday. Sandakan police chief Asst Comm Abdul Fuad Abdul Malek said the house was completely razed in the fire. “The cause of the fire and losses are still being assessed by the fire authorities,” said ACP Abdul Fuad, adding the incident was classified as sudden death. In an unrelated incident, the body of a man, believed to be homeless, was found at the Grandview bus stop at Jalan Buli Sim Sim, Sandakan at 8.30pm on Saturday (Nov 16). ACP Abdul Fuad said a passer-by had earlier noticed the man unconscious and immediately alerted the authorities.

BUTTERWORTH: Police have arrested a foreign national for allegedly gouging out a man's left eye during a fight that took place in Ara Kuda on Saturday. Penang Police Chief, Comm Datuk Hamzah Ahmad, said the 28-year-old suspect was arrested following the altercation, which occurred at around 2pm and left the 52-year-old victim with serious injuries. "Based on initial investigations, the victim, a local man, had provoked the suspect before the suspect attacked him, injuring both of the victim’s eyes," he said. Comm Hamzah added that the victim has been sent to Kepala Batas Hospital for further treatment and is reported to be in critical condition. He said the suspect has been remanded and is being investigated under Section 325 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt.

KUALA LUMPUR: Bukit Aman is investigating an accident involving a civilian vehicle and a police vehicle, which was escorting a VIP at KM259 of the North-South expressway. Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri (pic) said the department received information about the accident on Saturday (Nov 16), which went viral on social media. "We received a report on the accident involving two cars in Seremban, Negri Sembilan," he said when contacted on Sunday (Nov 17). Conn Mohd Yusri said further investigations are being conducted.
