Liverpool are in the running to win their first FA Cup since 2022, and they'll discover their fifth-round foes on Monday. That's left Slot to shake up his options once more, and this time, it was Jones appointed makeshift right-back against Brighton. ‌Szoboszlai rejects Gerrard comparisonsSpeaking of aces in the Liverpool deck, arguably none hold as high a value as Szoboszlai at present. In addition to his seven assists across all competitions, it's no surprise the player has found himself likened to club icon Steven Gerrard. "I'm not playing a Steven Gerrard season, although he was a legend for the club," he told TNT Sports after the result.

Ms O’Neill is repeating a stance she took last March over attending the traditional events at the White House with President Trump. Last year, the SDLP and Alliance also stayed away from the White House, while DUP ministers, including the deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly attended. Meanwhile Mr Burrows put to Ms O’Neill that her decision on humanitarian grounds is “at odds” with her party colleague and Economy Minister Caoimhe Archibald visiting China last year. Deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly (Liam McBurney/PA)“Unfortunately, many members in the benches opposite will be on the wrong side at this historical moment. “We’ve also made clear where we disagree with the president, and we do disagree with them on many different occasions.

Nearly two centuries after it was first published, Astolphe de Custine’s Letters from Russia remains remarkably relevant today. Custine travelled to Imperial Russia in 1839, four years after his fellow aristocrat, Alexis de Tocqueville, published Democracy in America. The tsar, like Vladimir Putin today, saw himself as “continuing the work of Peter the Great”. Giuliano da Empoli’s 2022 book The Wizard of the Kremlin is a contemporary attempt to explain Russia. As played by Jude Law, Putin is an austere leader who shuns fancy food, distrusts fawning courtesans and prefers strenuous exercise to alcohol and carousing.

Tens of thousands of tenants living in social housing across Dublin city will receive letters from Monday notifying them of rent increases, averaging 30 per cent, which will kick in from April. Residents of Dublin City Council’s 29,000 houses and flats, as well as tenants in the private sector in receipt of housing benefits such as the housing assistance payment (Hap) and tenants of approved housing bodies all face increases. The council produced its new social housing rents policy, the first change to the rent system in 30 years, last November. However, Monday marks the first time individual tenants will be officially notified of how much additional rent they will have to pay. The council is changing how it calculates rents so households with multiple incomes pay more, but tenants of all incomes can expect some increases.

New figures issued by the Department of Justice show 1,037 international protection applicants were subject to Dublin III transfer decisions between 2021 and 2025. The Dublin III regulation is designed to dissuade asylum seekers making applications in more than one country. However, less than 2 per cent of those subject to a Dublin III transfer in Ireland were actually sent back to the EU state they first entered. Figures supplied by the department showed that 361 people who applied for asylum in Ireland in 2025 had already been granted international protection in another EU state. In all, 1,165 people who have applied for asylum in Ireland over the past five years have already had that status granted in another EU State.

In the Dublin City Council area, planning permission was in place for 27,288 new homes – 26,813, or 98.3%, of which are apartments. There were nearly 44,500 units – apartments and houses – with planning permission on which there was no activity taking place. However, the report notes that the number of units with planning permission that were “active” increased by more than 24 per cent year-on-year. The number of inactive units with planning permission was down nearly 10 per cent. The housing supply pipeline monitor, which covers the four local authority areas in Dublin, will indicate that in the third quarter of 2025, there was planning permission in place for 80,580 residential units.

First up, the Government’s decision to legislatively intervene to lift the Dublin Airport passenger cap, and secondly, Ministers accepted that a more balanced approach to restricting short-term tourism lets was needed. This is due to change this May 20th when Fáilte Ireland introduces a register of short-term lets. The lazy narrative that limiting all short-term lets will result in increased housing supply is neither proven nor credible. The Cabinet meeting last week raised the town population threshold for short-term letting to 20,000, so that short-term lets in towns with populations below this level can continue to operate. Also, what about those short-term lets in areas above a population of 20,000?

QuestionMy daughter, who is from the southwest is currently considering her regional options for college, preferably within commuting distance of home. I think she may prosper in a degree course that is a little more practically oriented. Given your daughter’s enjoyment of the practicalities of organising activities, one obvious suggestion is a degree in event management. Event management graduates are working across conferences, sporting events, festivals, arts and culture, corporate events, tourism, weddings and the public sector. There are also post graduate options in event management in Ireland and abroad, including an MSc in event management at TU Dublin, an MBus in cultural event management at IADT, and a new part-time fully online MSc in sustainable tourism and event management from ATU.
