UK contactless payment rules set to change from March 19 affecting all UK cardsBanks will be able to set higher contactless card limits from March 19, with the FCA removing the £100 cap, though most firms expected to maintain current limits for nowView Image Banks will be able to set higher contactless card limits from March 19 (Image: Klaus Vedfelt via Getty Images)Fewer than half of the banks and building societies reviewed by a ratings platform currently allow account holders to set their own contactless payment threshold. ‌The study found that merely 13 out of 31 (42%) banks and building societies assessed give customers the ability to determine their own contactless payment ceiling, though 21 (68%) did enable users to suspend contactless transactions. Features like setting your own contactless limit or freezing payments give customers a practical way to put the brakes on spending if they need to." UK Finance, the banking and finance industry body, announced in December that whilst it doesn't anticipate any immediate alteration to the £100 contactless threshold, "any changes made in the future will be done carefully and ensure strong security and fraud controls remain in place". ‌The FCA has also previously suggested that, drawing on feedback from the sector, it anticipates most firms will retain the £100 threshold for the time being.

The survey of 1,850 workers, carried out by Ireland Thinks, also shows almost half feel they have no meaningful say in decisions relating to their working conditions. It also finds women and young workers are the most likely groups to believe their views are not taken on board. When it comes to negotiating with an employer over pay and conditions, just 17 per cent of young workers believe they have an equal say in the process. “Irish workers are being short-changed and they know it,” Ictu general secretary Owen Reidy.

Rassie Erasmus has described Ireland’s rugby system as “precision farming” and the last year has shown how delicate the ecosystem is. All the analysis that followed the alarming defeats to France, New Zealand and South Africa remains valid and the issues that cropped up remain worthy of attention. Yet it all feels a little less alarming after a weekend where the senior side issued a stunning riposte to those who believed they are a beaten docket and the U-20s showed there’s life in the pathways yet.

King Charles was pictured putting on a brave face while leaving church on Sunday as the scandal over his brother Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor continues to rock the Royal Family. Ireland South MEP Cynthia Ní Mhurchú has called for Kerry Airport to be given increased regular exchequer funding to help stave off possible future investment turbulence. While welcoming the funding Kerry Airport receives under the Regional Airports Programme (RAP), Ms Ní Mhurchú raised concerns about this model of funding saying its support is limited to airports handling fewer than one million passengers. “The programme’s focus on these areas also constrains Kerry Airport’s ability to invest in revenue-generating projects that could strengthen its long-term viability,” Ms Ní Mhurchú said. Kerry Airport has received approximately €26 million in RAP funding between 2013 and 2025. Separately, Ní Mhurchú has also urged the European Commission to introduce a clear, consistent airport security policy across the EU.
