Council calls on public to help track local frog populationsOffaly County Council, in partnership with the Irish Peatlands Conservation Council, is seeking the public’s help to paint a clearer picture of how frogs are faring across the county. Since 1997, the Irish Peatland Conservation Council has co-ordinated Ireland’s longest running frog survey, the ‘Hop to It’ frog survey. While easily recognised and well known, the common frog is Ireland’s only frog species and despite its name the common frog (rana temporaria) is listed as a vulnerable species across Europe. The Irish Peatland Conservation Council need your help in 2026, as there were only one record received from Offaly in 2025. The Irish Peatland Conservation Council are asking you to become citizen scientist and take part in the ‘Hop to It’ Frog survey this year.

The BBC has just announced that its BAFTA-winning series Industry will come to an end in March with its 'fifth and final' season. Industry has been a runaway hit for the broadcaster since the first season aired back in 2020 and stars big names including Kit Harington and Marisa Abela. The suspects on the left and middle are accused of tearing down security fencing while the male on the right is accused of throwing a wooden plank at Gardaí. The first male suspect is of a slim build and was wearing a hat, a black jacket, grey hoodie and grey bottoms. The second suspect is also male and is bald and heavily built and was wearing a grey hoodie. A third suspect was also captured on a phone camera throwing a wooden plank towards gardaí. Abdelmohaimen Mohamed, 33, from Manchester, appeared at Sefton Magistrates Court today, Wednesday February 25, where he admitted ticket touting. ‌This came after he was seen trying to sell tickets to a couple from Seattle, USA, outside Anfield ahead of Liverpool's home match against Arsenal on August 31 last year. ‌This suggested he was involved in commercial-scale ticket touting, Merseyside Police said. ‌Following an investigation from the force, it was revealed Mohamed specialised in selling tickets to fans from Egypt and Saudi Arabia. Today, he pleaded guilty to the charges of sell/otherwise dispose of a ticket for a designated football match.
