The figures illustrated how Ireland was one of just six countries within the bloc that saw an increase in their road fatalities, but most of those recorded a single-digit increase, far below Ireland’s 31pc jump. Last year, Ireland recorded 184 road fatalities, 19pc higher than in 2022. Alongside Ireland, the biggest jump in fatalities were seen across Luxembourg (18pc), Estonia and Latvia at 18pc and 13pc, respectively. Trai Hume was the captain for both fixtures in September, but O’Neill believes Bradley is now ready to get his turn. “I just like playing football and I just play the same football I’ve always played,” he said. Since naming his squad, O’Neill has already lost goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell and defender Daniel Ballard, two key members of the defensive unit. “That’s the challenge for the boys, I think, to understand where we are as a team and how we’re progressing.”

Vine sued Barton for libel and harassment over nine online posts, including where he falsely called the BBC Radio 2 presenter a “big bike nonce” on X, formerly Twitter. The pair settled the claim after Barton posted two apologies on the same social media platform and paid a total of £110,000 damages to Vine, as well as his legal costs. The charity has promised an immersive festival with ‘magnificent’ fire-play and acrobatics, as well as a cavalcade of other-world creatures to celebrate the ‘epic battle’ between summer and winter. Tickets for the event can be bought online and cost £8 for adults and £6 for under 18s, with gates opening at 6.45pm and ending 10pm. “This year’s reimagining of the battle between Summer and Winter is embodied in two Warrior Queens, drawn from Norse and Celtic mythology.
