RTÉ is to spend €30m on its video streaming services from 2028, according to a newly issued contract for tender. The broadcaster has sought expressions of interest from suppliers to provide “technology solutions” for the continued “operation, evolution, and support of the RTÉ’s video streaming products from 2028 onwards”. Those solutions will include the management of content, rights and entitlements and the provision of “operational support services” for RTÉ’s existing systems, it said. Any successful supplier should expect to work within the “existing RTÉ ecosystem” while any changes to that system would be carried out via “incremental modernisation” rather than via a wholesale change to the platforms in place. The new tender documents note that RTÉ Player “had a record year in 2024 with over 142 million streams”.

After the drone-spying scandal, as it was dubbed, at the 2024 Olympic Games in France, Jasmine Mander wasn’t sure if she’d ever get to work in football again. “How do we get to a World Cup? Absolutely.”Mander is, then, back in football having being fired from her role as Canada’s assistant coach and banned from football by Fifa for a year following those events in France. Ironically, given her new position, Ireland were among the multiple national teams Canada were suspected of spying on. That was ahead of the 2023 World Cup meeting – although while Canada won 2-1, it didn’t help them keep out Katie McCabe’s incredible goal.

Mikel Arteta says he is upset that Arsenal do not score more goals from corners. The debate on whether set-pieces are ruining modern football has been raging this week, with Liverpool boss Arne Slot revealing on Monday that he no longer enjoys watching some Premier League matches. Arsenal are the corner kings this season with 16 goals coming from them, including both in Sunday’s win over Chelsea. But despite criticism about the Gunners’ tactics from some quarters – pundit Chris Sutton claimed Arsenal will be the “ugliest” Premier League title winners should they go on to clinch it – Arteta was unapologetic. “I would like to play with three players extra in my own half to get some beautiful football and play always against a free man.

What will it take to football-fix the global conflict being set in train by Fifa’s own Peace Prize Boy? The co‑host of the Fifa World Cup finals this summer is currently bombing one of its participating nations. Britain was involved in bloody conflicts in Borneo and Aden while it hosted the 1966 World Cup. It was a choice not just to award Trump a peace prize, but to invent a peace prize from scratch so he could win it, that fittingly gruesome drag‑me‑to‑hell golden bauble with its nest of clawing hands. A World Cup will take place if there is still a world left to contest it.
