'Have courage, I’ll see you soon': Blanche, 13, wrote in her letter thrown from the train headed to Auschwitz concentration camp. Only 51 would survive the concentration camps. They would have been packed into sealed cattle cars to be transported east towards the concentration camps in Nazi-occupied Poland*. When you think of the legacy of the Holocaust, your mind probably goes to the sites of the camps: Auschwitz, Dachau, perhaps the memorial in Berlin. *This article was amended on March 5th, 2026 to refer to “concentration camps in Nazi-occupied Poland” rather than “Polish concentration camps” as stated in an earlier version.

A €70m children’s science museum in Dublin is to be completed by Christmas 2029, despite there being no government funding to build it, the Irish Examiner has learned. The OPW said a final arbitration decision between itself and the charity proposing the museum — known as Irish Children’s Museum Limited (ICML) — means “works shall be carried out and completed on or before December 25, 2029”, including time required to procure a contractor. ICML recently pledged to raise €25m in contributions towards the construction of the museum, which has been mooted for over 25 years. However, the OPW, which manages the State’s property portfolio, reiterated that a government department or agency willing to fund the build has “yet to be identified”. “This is a project with no sponsoring department, no secured funding, no allocation in the National Development Plan, and therefore no path to delivery,” he said.

I think he's doing that better than he's ever done since I've been involved. “We haven't touched on it at all this week because we're not outcome-based, we're not thinking about titles, we're just thinking about getting better on our performance.
