Ten-man Brighton survive anxious finish to edge out BournemouthBy George Sessions, PABrighton endured a nervy finale but Joao Pedro’s fourth goal of the season helped them to a fine 2-1 win at Bournemouth to continue Fabian Hurzeler’s flying start to life in the Premier League. Pedro struck after four minutes and Kaoru Mitoma repeated the trick at the start of the second half to put the Seagulls in control. Hurzeler had demanded a quick start after a late comeback victory over Manchester City a fortnight ago and got his wish. It rocked Bournemouth but as both players got to grips with wet conditions the hosts slowly tried to fashion a response. It remained 1-0 at the break but not for long as Brighton grabbed a second in the 49th minute.

Wales hit a new low after losing for the 12th game in a rowBy Andrew Baldock, PA Rugby Union CorrespondentWales slumped to a 12th successive Test match defeat and head coach Warren Gatland saw the pressure ramped up on him as world champions South Africa won 45-12 at the Principality Stadium. For the first time since 1937, Wales went a whole calendar year without winning a Test, and many will feel that Gatland’s job is now hanging by a thread. South Africa were not at their best, but the sad truth for Wales is that they did not have to be. Wales claimed consolation scores from wing Rio Dyer and flanker James Botham, with Ben Thomas adding one conversion, but the game was done inside the opening quarter after South Africa posted three tries. Replacement prop Steenekamp claimed South Africa’s sixth try, converted by Jordan Hendrikse, and Wales still had 17 minutes left before their misery would be over.

The reigning champions’ hopes of an unprecedented fifth successive Premier League crown are evaporating as they continue to spiral. “We struggled a little bit to get the balls back. “We are playing a little bit in our thoughts, a little bit of negativity but this is normal. “Now everything is a little bit against – when you feel confident the results are good, but now it is the opposite.

Teenage replacement Setareki Turagacoke breaks to score a consolation try for Fiji. (AP PHOTO)Hansen himself may have been guilty of throwing one chance away when his try assist for debutant Cormac Izuchukwu drifted forward. But the Irish certainly didn't come out of the match unscathed in a bruising clash, with Ireland coach Andy Farrell explaining they're awaiting injury news on Jacob Stockdale (hamstring) and Jamie Osborne (groin). "It was a lot more pleasing than the last couple of weeks," Ireland captain Doris said in a pitchside interview, saying Ireland's discipline had improved but would still have to be better against the Wallabies. Fiji had to settle for second-half tries from Salawa and 18-year-old replacement Setareki Turagacoke, who was also sent to the sin bin late on.

Jackson and Fernandez give Maresca a winning return to LeicesterBy Jonathan Veal, PAEnzo Maresca enjoyed a winning return to Leicester as Chelsea ran out comfortable 2-1 victors at the King Power Stadium. Maresca led the Foxes to the Championship title in his only season in charge but left for Stamford Bridge in the summer. Chelsea dominated from the off and were rewarded with the 15th-minute lead, though Leicester defender Wout Faes will not want to watch it back. Leicester eventually turned up, albeit briefly, and fashioned two good chances to equalise before the break. Jackson’s header from Cucurella’s cross was straight at Hermansen but the rebound fell perfectly for Fernandez to head home.

Fiji boss claims Sam Prendergast escaped red card due to ‘wearing green jersey’By Ed Elliot, PA, DublinFiji head coach Mick Byrne suggested Ireland fly-half Sam Prendergast escaped an early red card during his side’s 52-17 defeat in Dublin because he was playing for the home team. Farrell said: “I get why it is (a yellow) but, to me, he turned his back and it’s harsh enough. “But the 50-50s, that last try (Kelleher’s), if you have another look at it, the green jersey holding on to the white jersey, nothing happens at TMO. “I’m sure if it was the other way around, we might not have got that try allowed.”
