The senior police officer made this revelation during a press briefing after the arrest of the 230 suspected criminals in Accra.

According to him, the tough decision was made at a time where the electronic money service was fully aware of the implications, backlash and possible losses from customers and agents who fail to conform to the directive. Addressing journalists during a media engagement in Accra last week, Eli Hini said his outfit had to make the bold decision of taking the lead to implement such a measure. Meanwhile, over 7,000 MoMo agents operating in the country have had their accounts suspended over their failure to comply with the directive implemented by the electronic money company. Many agents and customers are now required to provide identification before transactions can be carried out.

Accra Lions FC were on the verge of a 1-0 victory when referee Ganiu handed City Stars a penalty which was eventually converted to end the game 1-1. Defender Joseph Addo handed Accra Lions FC the lead with a 40-yard thunderous strike in the first half. The visitors doubled their lead through a goal scored by Rauf Salifu in the second half but referee Ganiu rejected it citing an infringement in the process of scoring. However, minutes later, referee Ganiu handed City Stars a penalty to the uttermost surprise of the players and spectators who included military officers. Accra Lions FC needed the win to extend their league at the top of the table but the draw leaves them in a very tight position.
