As vacancy for the presidency of the African Organization for Standardization (ARSO) opens, Ghana has registered its intention towards the continent’s body that is in-charge of harmonizing standards and conformity procedures to facilitate seamless intra-trading. ARSO’s 2021 congress has been slated for June 15 in Rwanda’s capital, Kigali. This year’s congress has become crucial as the African Union Commission seeks to significantly increase intra-trading through its ambitious vehicle – the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). The tenure of the next ARSO presidency will run between 2022 and 2025.

The sector minister, Cecilia Dapaah has noted that the Akufo-Addo government will for the first time have data on households with toilet facilities. This will help trace households without the facility after the 2021 Population Census. She stated that the upcoming population census will have questions under WASH and this will help with the database collection to ensure cleanliness and growth in the country as far as sanitation is concerned. The Sanitation Minister said, “We have an input in the questionnaire in the 2021 Census and for the first time, we will have data on how many households have toilets and how households dispose off their solid and liquid waste. Prince Kofi Amoabeng and Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, owners of defunct UT Bank and uniBank respectively, petitioned Parliament to probe the Central Bank on why their banking licences were withdrawn. The Bank of Ghana was later invited to appear before Parliament’s Probing Committee to ascertain how UT Bank and Unibank were collapsed. However, the legal counsel for the bank wrote to parliament insisting that they would not appear before parliament. Reacting to the response by the Bank of Ghana, the MP for South Dayi Constituency claims that the Central Bank was pitching itself as above the law and disobeyed the Speaker of Parliament.
