Chukwuemeka Clement, a 67-year-old suspected trafficker, has been arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja. In a statement on Sunday, the NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, said Chukwuemeka was apprehended on Tuesday for ingesting 100 wraps of cocaine after a body scan revealed multiple pellets in his stomach. The NDLEA spokesman stated Chukwuemeka excreted a total of 100 wraps of cocaine weighing 2.195 kilogrammes in four excretions. According to Babafemi, the suspect claimed he ventured into drug trafficking to raise enough money to marry a new wife. When the NDLEA officers were led to the house, 52 wraps of the illicit substance with a total weight of 767 grams were recovered.

New Delhi: Air India has conducted a successful evacuation operation for its crew members and two airport managers from Tel Aviv on Sunday, a source said. As per sources, among the evacuees were 10 crew members, comprising pilots and cabin crew, who were stationed in Israel for the purpose of operating the return flight. Meanwhile, Air India has suspended its operations to and from Delhi-Tel Aviv till October 14, in response to the ongoing Hamas offensive that erupted on Saturday, resulting in the tragic loss of lives and leaving several people injured. “Our flights to and from Tel Aviv will remain suspended till 14th October, 2023, for the safety of our passengers and crew. The United Nations World Food Program (WFP) said it has encountered a funding shortfall in meeting the needs of refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs) and communities in Ethiopia. The WFP, in its latest Ethiopia country brief issued late Thursday, said it is facing a funding shortfall of 420 million U.S. dollars to support its humanitarian activities in Ethiopia until the end of the year. “Reports from WFP’s conflict sensitivity assessment indicate that the food security situation is worsening in many areas of the country,” the WFP said. According to the WFP, Ethiopia has faced conflict, displacement and drought over the past few years, eventually resulting in growing food insecurity. The WFP said its net funding requirement of 410 million from July to December 2023 also includes 7 million U.S. dollars to support Sudan refugee response for the next six months.

Ethiopian security forces have arrested a number of Boko Haram and al-Shabab terror groups linked suspects, local officials said Saturday. The statement didn't detail the exact number of the detained terror suspects. It didn't specify the type of terror attacks either or the terror targets the suspects are accused of planning to strike.
