UNOCHA is appealing to humanitarian partners to cover the remaining 2.84 billion dollars needed to comprehensively address humanitarian needs in Ethiopia in 2023. ADDIS ABABA, Oct. 11 (Xinhua) -- The Ethiopian Embassy in Djibouti said Wednesday that 413 Ethiopian migrants who were stranded in the neighboring country have returned home in recent days. The embassy said in a press statement that 164 women and 249 men returned home by land transportation from Djibouti recently, adding that these people had been living in Djibouti as illegal migrants before their rescue. The embassy warned Ethiopian nationals that they risk sickness, theft, sexual violence and death if they continue using the Djibouti-Yemen route for illegal migration. It is estimated that thousands of Ethiopians are trafficked to Djibouti every year in transit to reach the Arabian Peninsula. Some of the Ethiopian migrants were subsequently arrested for illegal entry, spending months, and in some cases several years, in Djibouti's prisons.

Deby said that Chad residents in towns and villages along Chad’s border are fighting with refugees and displaced people over limited resources. For example, he said, several thousand Sudanese refugees entered Adre, a town in the southeastern province of Ouaddai, just within the past two weeks. Chad’s 2 million refugees come from several neighboring countries besides Sudan. She said the family has been hungry since they arrived in Chad with scores of other women and children. The United Nations estimates that by the end of the year, 600,000 Sudanese refugees will have arrived in Chad.
