ATLANTA – A jury has convicted Mezemr Abebe Belayneh of fraudulently obtaining U.S. citizenship by lying about his role in persecuting teenagers in Ethiopia because of their political views. Belayneh concealed this behavior when he received a visa to enter the United States in 2001 and naturalized as a U.S. citizen in 2008. The jury convicted Belayneh on one count of unlawful citizenship and one count of acquiring citizenship to which he was not entitled. The HSI Atlanta Field Office investigated the case with coordination from the Human Rights Violators and War Crimes Center (HRVWCC). Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, have arrested two businessmen at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, NAIA, Abuja, with consignments of cocaine and heroin going to Hong Kong and France concealed in their bellies. Director, Media & Advocacy, Femi Babafemi in a statement said the duo were arrested and detained after their body scan revealed they ingested illicit drugs. In his statement, Chidike claimed he is a businessman dealing in spare parts at the Alaba International market in Ojo area of Lagos. He added that he was to be paid N3.5million which he intended to use to import goods from Hong Kong. Meanwhile, a total of 2,197 kilograms of skunk were recovered in four interdiction operations in parts of Ondo state within four days.

ETHIOPIAN athletes claimed victory in both men’s and women’s races at Sunday’s Irish Life Dublin Marathon. Northern runners dominated the national championships held in conjunction with the event as Stephen Scullion and Ann-Marie McGlynn scored decisive wins. It commemorated Treacy’s victory in the race 30 years earlier in what was the swansong of his long and successful career. Husen, accompanied only by a pacemaker, was 19 seconds clear at the 20kms (59:35) with Scullion now in eighth (62:00). In the wheelchair race, Patrick Monahan won his seventh Dublin Marathon in a time of one hour, 41 minutes and three seconds.

Ethiopia's Kemal Husen took a minute and 14 mens off the men's course record as he won in 2:06.52Belfast man Stephen Scullion finished third in the men's race at the Dublin Marathon as Ethiopian winner Kemal Husen set a new course record of two hours six minutes and 52 seconds. Husen went to halfway in 1:02.56 and eventually bettered Othmane El Goumri's 2019 mark by a minute and 14 seconds. Scullion won the concurrently-run Irish Championship with Ann-Marie McGlynn taking the national women's title. The 2023 Beijing Marathon took place in the Chinese capital on Sunday morning.
