CAIRO – 20 November 2022: Fulfilling the invitation of Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad al-Thani, President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi headed Sunday to Doha to attend the opening ceremony of the 2022 FIFA World Cup to be held in the evening. One was between the Sovereign Fund of Egypt (TSFE) and the Qatar Investment Authority. Another was signed between Egypt's Social Solidarity Ministry and the Qatari Ministry of Social Development and the Family in the sphere of social affairs. As for the third, it was inked between the two countries on cooperation in the sector of ports. It is noteworthy to mention that the Egyptian president's visit to Doha in September was an exchange of the Qatari Emir's visit to Cairo in June.

CAIRO – 19 November 2022: Agriculture and Land Reclamation Minister El Sayed el Quseir discussed with Somali Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources Ahmed Adam Hassan ways of boosting bilateral cooperation in fish wealth development and management. During the meeting, the agriculture minister highlighted President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's directives to provide all forms of support to the African countries. For his part, the Somali minister congratulated Egypt on the outstanding organization of the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP27. The meeting also tackled a host of issues related to the fish wealth file and how to provide support to this important sector in Somalia. CI Capital announced on Thursday its consolidated results for the first nine months of 2022, with revenues increasing by 28% to reach EGP 2.5bn, while net profits after tax and minority interest rising by 18% y-o-y to reach EGP 486m. It also reported strong financial and operational results due to the efficiency of its talented workforce and a resilient business model that can weather market challenges. CI Capital’s asset management AUMs increased by 276% y-o-y to reach EGP 48.4bn, investment banking revenues rose to EGP 58m, while CI Capital Securities Brokerage captured a 16.4% market share during the same period. Additionally, Corplease’s leasing services reported EGP 271m in net profits while reporting a 28% y-o-y increase in new lease bookings to reach EGP 4.7bn. Finally, CI Capital’s mortgage finance subsidiary CI Mortgage stood with a portfolio of EGP 598m — a 206% increase from the EGP 196m recorded in the first nine months of 2021.

Egypt’s Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sweilam participated Saturday in the launch of the “Food and Agriculture Initiative.. For Sustainable Transformation”, within the activities of COP27 in Sharm El-Sheikh. Sweilam affirmed his full support for the “Food and Agriculture” initiative, which will be integrated with the “Adaptation in the Water Sector” initiative, which Egypt will launch on 14 November during the “Water Day” activities at the climate conference. He added that the events that the world is witnessing during the current year have negatively affected food supply chains around the world, in addition to the challenges posed by climate change to providing water and safe food, prompting everyone to mobilize efforts to support water and food issues. “Egypt’s water, food, and agricultural security issues are on the priorities of the COP27 agenda,” he said. Sweilam added that climate change has prompted global research institutions, international organizations and governments of countries to join hands and take joint measures to develop solutions to the problems resulting from climate change based on innovations and scientific research.

The Spokesperson for the Presidency Bassam Rady said the President inspected work progress in the upgrading of Gamal Abdel Nasser Axis, which is one of the major and vital arteries in New Cairo and east Cairo, extending to the New Administrative Capital. This axis is characterized by high traffic density and will be an alternative to the northern and southern Teseen, or 90, Street. After the upgrading, Gamal Abdel Nasser Axis will extend for about 11 Km, with a width of 45 meters and a total of 6 lanes. The President was keen on conversing with the workers on work progress.

CAIRO – 18 November 2022: Egypt will allocate LE 3 billion for the presidential multi-year initiative to plant 100 million trees nationwide in light of the challenges that the world, including Egypt, faces due to climate agenda. The first phase of the initiative includes planting 10 million trees by the end of the next year. Ministry of Local Development will contribute in the initiative by planting 80 million trees, including 7.7 million during the first year. Ministry of Environment will also plant 13 million trees under the initiative while the New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA) will plant seven million trees. The initiative will be planting trees in all 27 governorates in Egypt, including more than 3.4 million trees in Greater Cairo.

Fortescue Future Industries (FFI) and Egypt signed a major framework agreement today at the UN Conference of Parties on Climate Change (COP27) being held in Sharm El-Sheikh till 18 November, agreeing to work together to study and develop green hydrogen and renewable energy projects in Egypt. The binding agreement provides FFI access and exclusive land rights to study renewable energy resources in Egypt, which would include solar wind. The projects being considered could support a potential capacity of 7,600 MW of renewable energy, which has the potential to produce 330 kilo tonnes per annum of green hydrogen. The PM also stressed the government’s interest in localising renewable energy component manufacturing and noted that energy projects are vital, as they align with the government’s strategy to transform Egypt into a global renewable energy hub. For his part, FFI CEO Mark Hutchinson said the project would bring jobs and economic growth to Egypt.

CAIRO - 17 November 2022: Remittances from Egyptian expatriates recorded $20.9 billion during the first eight months of 2022, compared to $21.4 billion during the same months of 2021, the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) announced Thursday. In August, the remittances from Egyptian expatriates decreased to $2.2 billion, compared to $2.4 billion during July 2021. The CBE announced earlier that the remittances from Egyptian expatriates increased 1.6 percent during the fiscal year 2021/2022, recording $ 31.9 billion, compared to $31.4 billion during the fiscal year 2020/2021. Furthermore, remittances recorded $2.8 billion during June 2022, compared to about $2.9 billion during June 2021. Previously, the CBE said that the remittances of Egyptians working abroad hit $29.1 billion during the past 11 months.

He explained that the new company’s goal will focus on calling the complementary industries for green energy such as solar panels, electric turbines, and maintenance to localise green industrial technology in Egypt. Additionally, he said that the first stage of production will provide 3-4 GW of green fuel — whether ammonia or hydrogen — from 2023 to 2026. He also announced that seven protocols will be activated during the coming period in addition to preliminary agreements that the authority is expected to witness soon. Egypt aims to become a centre for green fuels, and the economic zone plays a major role in linking these projects to the Sokhna port, and the use of the liquid bulk dock for export. There are other agreements related to greening East Port Said Port and developing a multi-purpose terminal within it.
