Three Egyptian women have earned L’Oréal-UNESCO Fellowship For Women In Science National Awards for their scientific achievements, joining other notable women from all around the world. The award ceremony took place on Tuesday at Abdeen Palace, eastern downtown Cairo, in the presence of Vice President of the Academy of Scientific Research & Technology (ASRT) Amr Farouk. Mai Taha, a post-doctoral pharmacy student at Cairo University, has won the fellowship award for her research on using nanotechnology to help in effectively eliminating antibiotic resistant bacteria and treating diabetic foot. Meanwhile, Aya Atef, another post-doctoral pharmacy student at Tanta University, won the fellowship award for finding natural polymers with a molecular footprint that help patients of phenylketonuria (PKU), a rare genetic disease in children. Head of the Scientific Research Committee at the National Council for Women and former minister of scientific research Nadia Zakhary, UNESCO office representative in Egypt, and the director-general of L’Oreal Egypt have attended the ceremony, along with a host of senior officials from research centers and institutes.

Egypt celebrates the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People on 29 November every year. Egypt - Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly held a meeting with the Sovereign Fund of Egypt (TSFE) to discuss the promotion of investment opportunities in the Egyptian market around the world. CAIRO - 30 November 2022: The Arab Women's Organization will hold a workshop Wednesday addressing "the phenomenon of increasing violence against women in the Arab world," with the participation of a group of Arab women and men experts. The workshop will be held in person at the organization's headquarters, and a number of experts will virtually participate in via the Zoom application. Dr. Fadia Kiwan, the Director General of the organization, confirmed that the workshop comes within the framework of the organization's activities to join the international campaign to combat violence against women, which lasts for 16 days. She added that the workshop deals with the issue of violence in all its dimensions, discussing the reasons for the increase in the phenomenon of violence against women and the Arab legislations that address it, where case studies will be presented on the increase in violence against women in the public sphere, in addition to the cyber violence, violence during wars and conflicts, and domestic violence, as well as proposing solutions to contain the phenomenon of increasing violence against women in the Arab world.

Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Ahmed Issa held two meetings with the Saudi Minister of Tourism Ahmed Al-Khatib and Portuguese Minister of State for Tourism Rita Marques to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between the three countries in the field of tourism and antiquities. Egypt - Informed sources told Daily News Egypt (DNE) that Egypt Aluminium has chosen Premier Securities Brokerage to determine the fair value of the company’s shares before the Saudi Public Investment Fund’s acquisition of a 20-25% stake in the expected capital increase. The sources added that the choice came after a comparison between several offers from various companies, pointing out that the study may take about a month. The Saudi Sovereign Fund is awaiting the approval of the Egyptian Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA) to increase the capital of Egypt Aluminium for subscription by about 65%. The company revealed earlier that it is currently studying a capital increase through a “strategic investor” to help it finance development operations and maintain its current production capacity of 320,000 tonnes annually. The company owned by the Holding Company for Metal Industries is eyeing a $320m overhaul and has hired engineering giant Bechtel to conduct a feasibility study for the development.

CAIRO – 28 November 2022: Health and Population Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar announced on Monday that a national campaign to vaccinate children against polio for free across the country will run from December 11 to December 14. The campaign aims to vaccinate all children — Egyptian and foreign — from one day to five year old living in the country, he added. In 2006, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared Egypt free of polio, said the minister, noting that the last case of polio recorded in Egypt was in 2004. For his part, Head of the Preventive Medicine Sector Amr Kandil noted that the campaign will cover all Egyptian governorates through fixed clinics and mobile teams on streets and near churches, mosques, and metro stations. Comprising 90,000 medical personnel, the campaign will also go door to door in all governorates, villages, and remote areas, he added.

TEHRAN (IQNA) – Egypt’s Awqaf ministry said 46 new mosques that are dispersed across 11 governorates will be inaugurated next week. In a press release Sunday, the ministry said the inauguration of the mosques will be held on Friday, December 2. It pointed out that by the upcoming inauguration, the number of mosques that have been built/renovated since July 1 would be 351. Egypt’s authorities in April started maintenance and renovation works at the historical and sacred Al Sayeda Zainab Mosque. The renovation works also includes the buildings around it and the whole neighborhood, not just the mosque itself.

CAIRO – 27 November 2022: The Ministry of Social Solidarity released Sunday an infograph showcasing the different types of violence women aged between 15 and 49 and have been married at some point in their life went through at the hand of their husbands. The 2021 figures showed that 25 percent of the women in the aforementioned category were subject to physical violence, 22 percent endured psychological violence, and six percent were victims of sexual violence. As for domestic violence against children, it dropped from 93 percent in 2014, and 81 percent in 2021. The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) indicated Thursday that the percentage of females aged between 0 and 19 who have been subject to FGM fell by seven percent between 2014 and 2021 to become 14.2 percent. As for females who are in the same age group and are at the risk of falling victim to the crime, their percentage is 27 percent compared to 56.3 percent in 2014.
