Luxor African Film Festival announced that it will honor acclaimed Egyptian musician Hisham Nazih during its 12th edition. Nazih was selected by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to be a member in the Oscar organizer’s membership ranks. Nazih is the first-ever composer to be invited by the Academy and the only Egyptian in this year list. Nazih composed the soundtrack of Marvel’s series Moon Knight.
The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) will issue on Monday US dollar-denominated treasury bills (T-bills), worth $850m for a year, due on 2 January 2024. The CBE uses the proceeds of this T-bills bid to pay the value of a previous bid submitted by the bank on 4 January 2022 at a value of $852.9m. The Central Bank of Egypt had received 22 offers at a value of $1.140bn to cover a similar bid it put out on 5 December, at a value of $990m. According to the Central Bank’s data, on its website, the bank accepted 16 of those offers at the same offering value. It is noteworthy that the CBE allows subscribing to these T-bills for both local banks and foreign institutions, with a minimum subscription of $100,000 and its multiples.
Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi directed that the Sovereign Fund of Egypt (TSFE) should utilise the state’s assets and develop them in a sustainable manner to maximise the return and to preserve the capabilities of the current and future generations. This came during a meeting on Sunday with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Head of General Intelligence Abbas Kamel, Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala El-Said, and Executive Director of the Sovereign Fund of Egypt Ayman Soliman. During the meeting, the president was briefed on the projects and activities of the TSFE to increase the volume of investments to benefit the national economy. Since its establishment, the fund has contributed to attracting 43% of the total foreign direct investment with 14 projects and a value of about EGP 37bn, focusing on several important sectors of the Egyptian economy, especially hydrogen. The partnerships concluded by the TSFE with several Arab and international sovereign funds and their role in providing joint investment opportunities were also presented, in addition to presenting the work plan of the sub-fund for public offerings and the mechanism for implementing the state ownership document to provide diversified and attractive investment opportunities.

A report by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) showed a 12.5% increase in the number of mobile internet users till the end of October 2022 from 61.8 million to 69.5 million compared with corresponding period of 2021. The number of cell phone subscribers declined to 99.1 million by October from 101.4 million last year. Fixed internet users reached 11.9 million by October 2022 against 11.1 million in the corresponding period, recording a 7.2 percent increase. USB Modem users went down from 2.9 million to 2.1 million, registering a 27.6 percent decline.
CAIRO - 1 January 2022: Agricultural Expert at the Horticulture Research Institute Ayman Abdel Aal recommended expanding the agriculture of corn on reclaimed lands in New Delta, Toshki, East Owinat, Sinai, New Valley, Western Menya, and Matrouh's Maghara in order to face the shortage in animal feed. Abdel Aal pointed out that Egypt imports around 10 million tons of wheat, 11 million tons of yellow corn, and four million tons of soybean per annum. What's more, the country imports 97 percent of its needs of cooking oil. The expert highlighted that the pourtly industry alone needs around 900,000 tons of feed per month. He added that cultivation in reclaimed lands would allow for harvesting in December, and thus, more of the crop, as the harvest season of yellow corn in Egypt is the summer.
The spokesperson for the Egyptian Cabinet, Nader Saad, said that the US dollar crisis is on its way to being resolved, and that “the numbers prove it.”In a phone-in with the privately-owned Sada al-Balad satellite channel, Saad added that there were no US dollar resources for the government and the Central Bank of Egypt. He pointed out that “The ability of the banking sector to deal with the current situation contributed to the release of commodities worth more than six billion dollars.”“The past period witnessed a significant breakthrough in the release of goods from the ports, which had a positive impact and increased supply in the markets,” he explained. “The government is seeking, during the coming period, to return prices to what they were before the month of Ramadan, and provide all food commodities.”Saad revealed that there are commodities worth $8.5 billion in the ports, and that the coming period will witness the release of commodities worth $3.4 billion. He stressed that “No fines will be collected related to the customs release of the goods.”Saad pointed out that the delayed goods will be released at the ports as soon as their owners submit a request for release.
(Reuters) - The Russian Football Union's (RFU) Executive Committee members have not expressed their intention to switch to the Asian confederation even as the country remains suspended by European soccer body UEFA, RFU head Alexander Dyukov said. "Was any member of the Executive Committee in favour of Asia? Nobody expressed this position," Dyukov was quoted as saying by Russia's TASS news agency on Friday. The move prompted the RFU to discuss making the switch to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). But TASS reported the committee that met on Friday decided to create a working group to interact with FIFA, UEFA and other confederations.

Hamza pointed out that the authority conducted aerial and ground survey studies to explore the aquifer, determine the validity of the soil in the area of the national project "cultivating 19 thousand acres" in the New Valley Governorate. He added that a center for processing and interpreting aerial geophysical survey data has been established, which is the first center of its kind in Egypt and the Middle East region. The center contributes to the interpretation of survey data and the identification of areas of mineralization and surface geological structures.
Under the auspices of the Minister of Planning and Economic Development, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the Ministry’s Rowad 2030 project and VictoryLink, a leading provider of integrated technological and digital solutions, to support startups and entrepreneurs through business clinics known as Rowad Clinics. The MoU was signed by Ghada Khalil, Rowad 2030 Manager, and Haitham Saeed, Vice Executive President of VictoryLink. The Egyptian Senate, headed by Abdel Wahab Abdel Razek, approved Sunday a draft law on the establishment of the Digital Egypt Fund. The Digital Egypt Fund aims to activate several digital services and promote digital transformation to ensure sustainability. Furthermore, it supports the various state sectors to implement relevant plans and initiatives, spreads awareness of digital services, and provides economic returns and finances that enable the state sectors to provide their services optimally. The draft law aims to eliminate digital illiteracy by encouraging citizens to rely on digital transactions. It fulfils the constitutional obligation in Article 25 to eliminate digital literacy among citizens of all ages and to develop mechanisms for digital transformation in a clear time plan.
