CAIRO - 8 January 2023: Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohamed Shaker told the Middle East News Agency (MENA) that Egypt and Greece are in the process of selecting an international consulting firm that would prepare a feasibility study for an intended electricity linkage between both countries. The minister stated that the two countries can exchange electricity of around 2,000 megawatts. Minister Shaker highlighted the European interest in electricity linkage with Egypt, which has a surplus of renewable energy, and a strong distribution grid. With regard to electricity linkage with Saudi Arabia, the minister stated that 87 percent of the overhead power lines on Egyptian territories are finished. He noted that the target is finishing 1,500 megawatts in May 2025 and another 1,500 megawatts in November.

The Egyptian Presidential Adviser for Religious Affairs Usama al-Azhari hailed late renowned Sheikh Mohamed Metwally al-Shaarawi as a symbol of science and patriotism. Azhari’s comments followed on controversy that erupted Thursday after liberal journalist Ibrahim Eissa criticized Shaarawi, who enjoys wide popularity in Egypt and the Arab world. Yaroslav Yanushevych, the head of the Kherson Regional Military Administration, said this in a post on the Telegram messaging application carried by Ukrinform Sunday. The Russian forces reportedly "shelled the territory of the Kherson region 19 times. They fired artillery, MLRS, mortars, tanks and used UAVs", Yanushevych said. CAIRO - 6 January 2022: A recent fire in a factory in Amman, Jordan, has killed three Egyptians and injured four, Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Thursday. Two of the injured are in a critical condition and are receiving treatment, the ministry said. One of the other two injured left hospital as he only suffered minor injuries while the other is in a stable condition but still receives treatment, the ministry added. The Egyptian consul in Amman headed to Al-Bashir Hospital, where the victims were hospitalized, to follow up on the health condition of the injured and ensure that they receive the best medical care. A fire broke out in a factory in Al-Muwaqqar, Amman, on Monday 2 January.

The Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA) has received a letter of intent from Compass Capital to submit a non-binding purchase offer on the shares of Pachin. In a statement to the Egyptian Exchange, the FRA stated that Compass Capital aims to acquire a stake of no less than 51% and up to 90% of the targeted company’s capital in order to maintain its listing on the Egyptian Exchange. It added that the bidder set the initial price of the share at EGP 30, provided that the final price is determined based on the results of the due diligence examination of the target company. Eagle Chemicals set the initial price for the acquisition of Pachin shares at EGP 29.5 per share. Last November, the Emirati National Paints Holding Company submitted an offer to acquire Pachin at a price of EGP 29 per share.
