Assistant Foreign Minister for American affairs Hazem Fahmi accompanied Latin America ambassadors accredited in Egypt on a two-day visit to New Alamein city. The Foreign Ministry organized the visit within the framework of promoting for Egyptian potentials in various domains, especially developing the infrastructure, establishing smart cities and launching giant projects. The Foreign Ministry said on Sunday that ambassadors met with Matrouh Governor Khaled Shoeib who briefed them on the construction of New Alamein city to be a modern and smart city. The governor posted the ambassadors on various giant projects in Matrouh and efforts to expand investments to secure more jobs. The ambassadors visited the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport and Alamein International University.

KIEV, June 18 (MENA) - The air force of Ukraine's defense forces launched 14 air strikes on Russian troop concentration areas on Saturday, destroying two anti-aircraft missile systems, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said this in its Sunday morning update, Ukrinform reports. "Over the last 24 hours, [Ukrainian] rocket and artillery units hit three command posts, two personnel concentration areas, five ammunition depots, and three artillery units in firing positions," the military said. In total, over the past day, Russia launched 43 air strikes, 4 missile strikes, and mounted 51 attacks using MLRS against the positions of Ukrainian troops and populated areas. The probability of missile and air strikes across Ukraine remains high. Russia is concentrating its main efforts on the Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Marinka areas, with 26 combat engagements recorded there over the past day.

Kampala, Uganda CNN — At least 26 students have been killed and six abducted following an attack at a western Uganda school by armed rebels from the Allied Democratic Force, a Ugandan major told CNN on Saturday. The military suspects more dead bodies may be found, but said there was no one still alive trapped in the school. Armed rebels of the ADF, which has ties to ISIS, attacked the school in Mpondwe on Friday night, police have said. “A dormitory was burnt and a food store looted,” Uganda Police Force Spokesperson Fred Enanga said on Twitter, adding that the bodies had been transferred to Bwera Hospital. A World Bank report revealed the volume of remittances of workers abroad, with a total amount of US$831 billion, and a growth of eight percent in low- and middle-income countries to $647 billion. The report indicated that remittances to Egypt, the largest recipient of remittances in the region, decreased by 10 percent during 2022, reaching $28.3 billion, compared to $31.5 billion in 2021, which was the highest level reached by remittances from Egyptians abroad. France (a high-income country) recorded remittances for workers abroad amounting to $30 billion, while Egypt came behind Pakistan with $28 billion. Egypt ranked first in Africa, followed by Nigeria with $20 billion, Morocco with $11 billion, Ghana with $4.6 billion, and Kenya with $4 billion in 2022. Although Egypt also came first in the Arab world, surpassing Morocco and Lebanon, the World Bank indicated that Lebanon is more affected by workers’ remittances, given that these remittances represent 36 percent of its gross domestic product, and that “highlights the importance of remittances to finance the current account deficit and the budget,” according to the World Bank.
