CAIRO - 27 June 2023: The Egyptian Ministry of Environment is preparing to launch a national campaign under the slogan "No to Plastic", under the auspices of Dr. Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment, and is scheduled to kick off during the last week of July 2023. "No to Plastic" is an expanded campaign that will be launched on social media platforms to raise awareness of the dangers of using plastic, and to promote alternatives to single-use plastic products. The campaign aims to raise awareness of the dangers of single-use plastic products, in order to develop public awareness of the health and environmental risks of plastic waste. She added, “At the level of African airlines, we find that EgyptAir declined a lot and came at the bottom of the list, preceded by the Ethiopian company.”Rizkallah stressed that EgyptAir was one of the leading companies in the world, and when it was established in 1932 it became the seventh carrier airline in the world. The company is in dire need of regaining its leadership in the Arab, African and international rankings, she lamented.

The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) has released data showing that Egypt’s manufacturing and extractive industries index decreased by 8.44% in April 2023. The index, which excludes crude oil and petroleum products, reached 99.33 in April 2023, compared to 108.49 in March 2023. The decrease was driven by a decline in the manufacture of electrical equipment, which fell by 25.73%, and the manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations, which fell by 20.66%. CAPMAS attributed the decrease in the manufacturing and extractive industries index to a number of factors, including the lack of raw materials, the availability of stocks of products, and the impact of the war in Ukraine. The agency said that it will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates on the index in the coming months.

Rami El Dokani, Chairperson of the Egyptian Exchange (EGX), has expected that TAQA Arabia, a subsidiary of Qalaa Holdings Group, will be traded on the stock market starting from July. He added that TAQA Arabia is in the final stages of offering, as reported by Daily News Egypt this week. At the beginning of this month, the Egyptian Exchange (EGX) Listing Committee agreed to temporarily list the shares of TAQA Arabia, under the ticker symbol (TAQA.CA). TAQA Arabia is available for direct trading without offering, with an issued capital of EGP 676.2m, distributed over 1.35 billion shares, with a nominal value of EGP 0.50. TAQA Arabia builds, runs, and upkeeps energy infrastructure, including gas transmission and distribution, in eight Egyptian governorates.

This agreement exempts Egypt from paying debts worth €54m to be used to finance the transition to green energy in Egypt instead. The project is to develop the transmission network to integrate renewable energies into the electricity transmission network and to strengthen it. The project will be implemented by the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company. German Ambassador to Cairo Frank Hartmann stated, “We are pleased to support Egypt on its path to energy transition through debt swaps. This would allow new investments in energy infrastructure and pave the way towards a green, liveable future for all Egyptians.

Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Ali al-Moselhy assured Monday that Egypt is completely safe in terms of food and supply commodities during the coming period. Moselhy said that Egypt’s strategic reserves of wheat are sufficient for six months alongside its reserves of vegetable oils, lasting up to four months. He added that Egypt has bought 3.6 million tons of local wheat so far, and that the nation’s strategic reserves of rice are sufficient for 3.3 months. He said that large quantities of fresh and chilled meat are being pumped into the outlets of consumer complexes, as part of the ministry’s preparations for Eid al-Adha. And Moselhy said that the opening of the financial credit of US$10 million contributed to increasing the quantities of contracted livestock from Djibouti to 12,000 heads.
