The province will soon be expanding the prescribing powers of Registered Nurses who complete additional training, allowing them to provide Ontarians with birth control, travel medications, and vaccinations such as the flu shot and COVID-19 vaccine. “Training programs are being developed by the College of Nurses of Ontario to ensure registered nurses can acquire the knowledge, skill and judgment to conveniently administer and prescribe more medications,” Jones said. “This includes ensuring changes in nurses’ scope of practice, including RN prescribing, are implemented safely for all Ontarians.”The training programs will be offered through select colleges and universities, the province confirmed. This development comes after the province expanded the prescribing powers of pharmacists in Ontario earlier this year. OTTAWA — The NDP and Conservatives want answers about why the federal government signed a vaccine contract with a company financially tied to the tobacco industry, going against its own policies and leading to a $150-million loss. “Giving $150 million away to a corporation and getting nothing in return is bad governance,” NDP Health critic Don Davies said during a House health committee meeting Monday. On Monday, Opposition members of the health committee lambasted the Liberals for their lack of transparency and vowed to launch a study into the full contract. Liberal MP Brendan Hanley accused the Opposition of demanding the study so they can “delay, delay, delay” other studies planned by the health committee. He and his colleague, MP Majid Jowhari, also pushed back on the notion the government “lost” $150 million in the unfulfilled contract with Medicago.

November 6, 2023 —Too much is being left in the hands of MAID assessors and providers, said Dr. Jitender Sareen, department head of psychiatry at the University of Manitoba. “Offering people death instead of appropriate treatments really goes against what we as a society should be doing.”Sareen said guidance is also lacking on how or whether doctors can distinguish between someone who is actively suicidal and someone who is making a rational request for MAID but who isn’t in a period of crisis.

Over three years after it was announced, the federal government has yet to release any sound estimates on what the expropriation would cost taxpayers. That number is higher than estimates given out during the 2019 federal election by Blair, who pegged the cost of a buyback at between $400 million and $600 million. The National Post reached out to both Public Safety Canada and the office of Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc for comment. A 2021 report by the Parliamentary Budget Officer put the cost of a federal gun grab as high as $756 million. Earlier this year, Public Safety Canada announced a $700,000 partnership with the Canadian Sporting Arms and Ammunition Association (CSAAA) to facilitate compensation for retailers left with millions of dollars in unsellable merchandise.
