Dartmouth basketball players vote Tuesday on whether to form a union. (AP Photo/Jimmy Golen)The Dartmouth men’s basketball team voted to unionize Tuesday in an unprecedented step toward forming the first labor union for college athletes and another blow to the NCAA’s deteriorating amateur business model. “Today is a big day for our team,” said Dartmouth juniors Cade Haskins and Romeo Myrthil, who have led the effort. The case could also wind up in federal court, which would likely delay negotiations over a collective bargaining agreement until long after the current members of the basketball team have graduated. ___AP college basketball: https://apnews.com/hub/ap-top-25-college-basketball-poll and https://apnews.com/hub/college-basketball

At the first Winterlude in 1979, it was more than skaters and Beavertails out on the Rideau Canal. A special ice sculpture at Winterlude pays tribute to the event that ran from 1979 until 1985 and featured quarter-mile horse races on the ice. Bill Galvin founded the Trotting on the Rideau harness races, and told CBC Radio's All in a Day that the event was a real spectacle. Galvin was active in the harness racing community and knew the history of harness racing both on the Ottawa River and the canal. "They came from all over North America to race on the canal, because of the very smooth surface," Galvin said.

It seems like everyone I talk to about a new job wants to work totally remote or, at the very least, hybrid. As with most tech workers, Sally packed up her laptop and even her desktop equipment and headed home to her rented apartment. Heck, why not work remote from Boise … or the Bahamas? The article quoted some upper-level managers who said it’s easier to lay off remote staff than locals, because they don’t have a close relationship with other remote workers.
