Meta-owned Facebook and Instagram were back up on Tuesday after a more than two-hour outage that was caused by a technical issue and impacted hundreds of thousands of users globally. The disruptions started at around 10:00 a.m. ET (1500 GMT), with many users saying on rival social media platform X they had been booted out of Facebook and Instagram and were unable to log in. "We are aware of the incident and at this time, we are not aware of any specific malicious cyber activity at this time," a spokesperson for the White House National Security Council said. At the peak of the outage, there were more than 550,000 reports of disruptions for Facebook and about 92,000 for Instagram, according to outage tracking website Downdetector.com.

Bangladesh have fought off India’s comeback for a 3-1 victory to reach the final of SAFF U16 Women’s Championship in Nepal. India will play Nepal on Friday for the other spot in the final as both sides are tied on three points with victories over Bhutan who have been eliminated. For Bangladesh, Friday’s dead rubber against Bhutan is now a warm-up game for the final. Even the match against India was a dress rehearsal of the final, Titu had said earlier, hinting at the rivalry between the two sides that peaked after they were declared champions jointly in the dramatic final of the SAFF U19 Women’s Championship recently. Jatiya Sangsad Leader Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina delivered her valedictory speech at the closing of the session. Fifty parliamentary standing committees were formed while twenty-three parliamentary standing committees also were reconstructed during the session. Along with enactment of the laws, two bills were passed during the twenty-two working session. Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury also thanked all MPs, officials, journalists, law enforcers and fire service and civil defense personnel for their services rendered for smoothly holding the parliament session.

DHAKA, March 5, 2024 (BSS) - Health and Family Welfare Minister Professor Dr Samanta Lal Sen today said physicians attached with healthcare facilities in rural areas will be given special opportunities including financial incentives. Samanta said doctors and health workers will get special opportunities, if they serve the rural people. Large segments of people are living in rural setting, he said, adding the government is working to reach treatment facilities to the door steps of the common people. The health minister said the doctors at upazila level hospitals and health centres have huge responsibilities for providing healthcare facilities to the people living in rural areas. He urged the medical professionals particularly in rural areas as well as hard-to-reach areas to extend health services for upholding professional dignity.

DHAKA, March 5, 2024 (BSS) - The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court today ordered authorities concerned to transfer Taka 420 crore of the customers of multilevel marketing company (MLM) UniPay2U to the government treasury. The three-member apex court bench headed by Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan passed the order, paving way for the customers to get their money back by applying to the government. The apex court today ordered to transfer the money to the government treasury. It also ordered to publish advertisement on national dailies, so that customers can claim their money within 30 days," Barrister Aneek R Haque, who moved the plea for the customers at the court, told newsmen. The lawyer said the government will scrutinize their claims and arrange the process to give them their money back.

The Restaurant Owners Association has described the drives by government agencies at various restaurants across Dhaka following the loss of life in the fire at Green Cozy Cottage on Dhaka’s Bailey Road as ‘harassment’. Imran Hassan, the association’s general secretary, says, “At this moment, in the name of raids, they are causing chaos across Dhaka city. But the restaurant has the necessary licences from 12 government agencies.”“The city corporations, RAJUK [the capital development authority], and other government agencies are now harassing every restaurant in the city. A RAJUK mobile court conducted a raid in Dhaka’s Bailey Road on Tuesday and closed the Nawabi Voj restaurant in the AQI Shopping Mall. The task force will consist of people from the Restaurant Owners’ Association, experts from FBCCI and BUET if necessary.”
