The Election Commission (EC) has issued a show-cause notice to Maulana Mamunul Haque, ameer of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis and the party’s candidate for the Dhaka-13 constituency, over allegations of violating the electoral code of conduct. According to the notice, Mamunul Haque has been instructed to appear at the returning officer’s office on January 17 to submit an explanation. Under the revised election schedule, official campaigning for the 13th National Parliamentary Election is set to begin on January 22 and continue until 7:30am on February 10. However, allegations have been raised that Mamunul Haque engaged in electioneering before the permitted period. According to the election schedule, scrutiny of nomination papers was conducted from December 30 to January 4.

A dockyard security guard was stabbed to death, allegedly by muggers in the Bashundhara River View Balur Math area of South Keraniganj early Wednesday. The victim was identified as Ahmed Dewan, 60, son of late Mofa Dewan of South Pangaon, Keraniganj. He worked as a security guard at Pangaon Dockyard. He was later taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around 9:30am where doctors declared him dead, she said. The government has decided to continue export incentives and cash assistance for 43 sectors until June 2026. The ready-made garment (RMG) and textile sectors will continue to be the main beneficiaries of the incentives. Processed agricultural products will continue to enjoy a 10% cash subsidy, while diversified jute goods will receive 10%, jute products 5% and jute yarn 3%. Incentives ranging from 1.5% to 8% will remain in place for frozen shrimp, electronics, plastic goods, ship exports and various animal by-products.
