Bangladesh has resumed importing electricity from Nepal through India's grid line, following a multilateral agreement that also involves India. Zahurul Islam, a member (generation) of the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB), confirmed that the electricity supply from Nepal began on Sunday, reports bdnews24.com. According to the agreement, Nepal will supply electricity to Bangladesh for six months, until the 15th of November,” he said. Last year, on Jun 11, the Awami League government approved a proposal to directly import electricity from Nepal. Following that agreement, Nepal supplied electricity to Bangladesh for a few days in November.

BNP leader Ishraque Hossain has announced that he will oversee and supervise the operations of the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) amid continuing protests demanding his swearing-in as mayor. On Sunday, supporters of Ishraque and DSCC employee unions resumed their sit-in at Nagar Bhaban, the DSCC headquarters, after the Eid holidays, demanding that he be handed over mayoral responsibilities. After addressing his supporters, Ishraque held a meeting with a small group of DSCC officials and employees on the ground floor of Nagar Bhaban around 12pm. He had entered the Nagar Bhaban grounds at 11am and reiterated his call to continue the protest. Their demonstrations brought administrative operations at Nagar Bhaban to a virtual standstill.

Quarter of total loans in Bangladesh now defaulted, NPLs exceed Tk 4tn for first timeBangladesh’s non-performing loans (NPLs) have crossed Tk 4 trillion for the first time in the country’s history, with nearly one in every four loans now in default, according to the latest figures from the central bank. Data released by Bangladesh Bank shows that as of the March 2025 quarter, NPLs stood at Tk 4.20 trillion, representing 24.13 percent of total outstanding loans. As of March 2025, their NPLs stood at Tk 1.46 trillion, making up 45.79 percent of their total loans. Specialised banks held Tk 64.94 billion in defaulted loans, accounting for 14.37 percent of their total disbursements of Tk 448.87 billion. The number of Bangladeshi pilgrims who have died during this year's Hajj has risen to 29 amid a searing heatwave sweeping across Makkah and Madinah, according to the Ministry of Religious Affairs. So far, 25 male and four female pilgrims from Bangladesh have died during Hajj this year. Although the main Hajj rites were held on Jun 5, many Bangladeshi pilgrims remain in Saudi Arabia. After an extended Eid-ul-Adha break, there was more traffic on the roads as workplaces reopened on Sunday in the capital. He said that several schools and colleges in the Mohammadpur area were closed, which meant that the roads were largely clear. Though there was more traffic on the road from Farmgate, through Asadgate, College Gate, and Shyamoni, the usual congestion was absent. A female readymade garment worker has been found dead in a house in Dhaka’s Savar Upazila, with her family alleging she was raped before being murdered. Inspector Sirajul Islam Sabuj of the Savar Tannery Police Outpost said the man was picked up from a building in Tetuljhora on Saturday afternoon. She had been living in the rented apartment with her husband, Selim Mia, and working at a local garment factory. Her husband Selim has been missing since the incident.”Inspector Sirajul said a post-mortem examination will determine whether she was sexually assaulted.
