Djibouti has inaugurated Red Sea Power, a wind farm project that will produce 60 MW electricity in a bid to reduce power shortage and increase domestic output by 50 per cent. Red Sea Power is located in Ghoubet, 120 km from capital Djibouti. Red Sea Power is set to provide electricity to 38% of the country’s population that currently does not have access to it. The African country in the horn of the continent depends heavily on power generated from imported fossil fuels, as well as hydrogen generated power imported from neighboring Ethiopia. In addition to power to be generated, the Red Sea Power partners have built a solar-powered desalination plant that will provide drinking water to villages near the farm.

King Mohammed VI chaired this Thursday September 14, 2023, at the Royal Palace in Rabat, a working meeting devoted to activating the emergency program for rehousing disaster victims and caring for the categories most affected by the Al Haouz earthquake. During the meeting, the Sovereign was briefed on the first version of the rehousing program which was prepared by the inter-ministerial commission set up pursuant to the high royal instruction. The program covers some 50,000 totally or partially collapsed homes in the five provinces affected by the quake. During the meeting, the King also raised the equally crucial issue of immediate care for orphaned children, who today find themselves without family or resources.
