The 2020 MTV Video Music Awards will be staged in person at the Barclays Center on Aug. 30, Gov. Mr. Cuomo said the 36-year-old awards show would take place at the venue, in Brooklyn, albeit with a limited or no audience. Social distancing precautions and capacity limits will be in effect, MTV said in a release. New York City is set to enter Phase 3 of its four-stage reopening plan on July 6. The plaza in front of the venue has become a central gathering space for Black Lives Matter demonstrators in recent weeks.
