A three-year-old baby from Gia Lai Province in Vietnam’s Central Highlands region died of rabies on Monday after he was bitten by a cat about one month ago, a local health official confirmed the same day. Since his health condition then worsened, he was rushed to the Chu Se Medical Center at 1:34 pm on Sunday before being transferred to the Gia Lai Children’s Hospital to receive further treatment on the same day. He was diagnosed with rabies, gastrointestinal infection, and dehydration. Việt Nam is expecting to start a North-South high-speed railway project, which spans over 1,500km, in partnership with China in 2026-27, according to Minister of Transport Nguyễn Văn Thắng. Việt Nam plans to upgrade and renovate seven existing railway lines with a total length of 2,440km, and build 9 new railway lines with a total length of over 2,600km, including the 175km HCMC-Cần Thơ line and the 1,545km North-South high-speed railway line. There is also a plan to build 14 urban railway lines in HCM City (6 lines) and Hà Nội (8 lines). PM Chính emphasised the importance of investing in developing railways in Việt Nam, in which investment in urban railways is considered urgent. HÀ NỘI — Tourism is a bright spot in Việt Nam's economic panorama in the first half of 2024 with revenue from accommodation and food services estimated at VNĐ356.4 trillion (US$14 billion), a year-on-year increase of 15.2 per cent. According to unofficial data, around 15 localities have reported tourism revenue of more than VNĐ10 trillion each, six higher than the figure recorded in the same period last year.
