On Monday, the NFL announced that the 2026 NFL Draft would have an additional 33 compensatory picks. The Detroit Lions currently hold just one of those 33—a pick at the very end of the fifth round, Pick 181 in the entire draft. In very basic terms, the teams that lose more free agent talent than they add are awarded extra compensatory picks. The Lions were previously awarded a third-round compensatory pick for the 2026 NFL Draft because of the Rooney Rule. That awarded the Lions third-round compensatory picks in back-to-back drafts after Aaron Glenn, formerly the Lions’ defensive coordinator, was hired as the New York Jets head coach last year.

Just minutes after reportedly losing linebacker Alex Anzalone in free agency, the Detroit Lions’ defense is taking another hit. According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, Lions cornerback Amik Robertson is signing with the Washington Commanders. His deal is reportedly worth $16 million over two seasons, with $9.3 million guaranteed. The Lions originally signed Robertson to a two-year, $9.25 million deal in 2024 as a free agency add from the Raiders. Robertson proved to be a nice, versatile piece of Detroit, playing at both nickel and outside cornerback.

An otherwise breezy conversation between the two justices about the routines of the Supreme Court turned more testy when US District Judge Paul Friedman asked about the court’s emergency docket. Kavanaugh said that some of the criticism of the court’s emergency docket is unfair, given that the court must rule one way or the other on whether to grant or deny those cases. “I think it’s because the Supreme Court has shown a willingness to grant these emergency motions,” she said. The back and forth came a week after the court handed down simultaneous emergency docket orders in two touchy political cases. President Donald Trump’s sway over the Republican Party faces a fresh test Tuesday with a free-for-all special election in northwest Georgia to replace Marjorie Taylor Greene, the Trump ally-turned-critic who vacated her seat in Congress in January. Yet he said voters loyal to the president could draw their own conclusions about the race, saying: “We’ve never talked about this being President Trump’s district. His actions ultimately led to him being kicked out of the Republican state Senate caucus. “We have to support President Trump,” Fuller said.

From Week 6 through the end of the regular season, Borom quietly graded as PFF’s 35th-highest graded offensive tackle (70.3). That mark was 10 spots ahead of Jamaree Salyer, 13 spots ahead of Taylor Decker, and six spots behind Yosh Nijman during that stretch. Borom does have some length limitations at right tackle, but he’s a dense, sturdy athlete with a powerful upper body who brings plenty of force as a drive blocker. He still needs to rein in some control issues, but his punch timing and placement in pass protection have improved enough to take advantage of his natural power.

Day 1 of Detroit Lions free agency will likely be most defined by the team’s losses rather than their gains. Detroit addressed their offensive line by agreeing to terms with former Panthers center Cade Mays and reserve tackle Larry Borom. So today’s Question of the Day is:Which Lions free agent loss was the biggest on Day 1? Free agency won’t have an upgrade option for the Lions there—and Larry Borom should really only be considered startable depth, not a full-time option. Detroit will almost certainly have to draft an offensive tackle with a top-100 pick if they want to make sure their offensive tackle position doesn’t suffer a significant step back in 2026.
