At the 2011 Academy Awards, Anne Hathaway walked the red carpet in an ornate Fall 2002 Valentino couture gown, accompanied by the designer himself. With his precision tailored suits, suntan and perfectly coiffed hair, Valentino was every bit the quintessential Italian gentleman. Valentino retired from the industry in 2008, after more than 45 years, marking the end of one of the longest careers in fashion. For the finale, models donned identical “Valentino red” gowns.

But this poll suggests something even more ominous for Trump: They don’t think he’s particularly good at it. The “60 Minutes” story on the El Salvador prison that led to a rocky start for CBS News Editor in Chief Bari Weiss made it to air Sunday. Sharyn Alfonsi, the “60 Minutes” correspondent who worked for months on the piece, protested the move by Weiss, calling it politically motivated in an email she sent to colleagues. Pulling a “60 Minutes” segment critical of the administration after it had already been promoted only intensified that perception. “CBS News leadership has always been committed to airing the 60 MINUTES CECOT piece as soon as it was ready,” the network said in a statement. She did not see it until the Thursday before the Dec. 21 “60 Minutes” air date.

By emphasizing “innovation” as a product to purchase from the private sector, the Pentagon is inviting a wider array of new actors to share responsibility for national defense.
