Some Europeans want to hit back in a trade war. Trump’s Greenland claim is getting more bizarreEuropean leaders who’ve drawn a red line over Greenland have another problem: How do they reason with a president who lives in his unique reality? Maybe Europe should follow the example of China, the only nation to force Trump into a serious capitulation in his second term. Any European trade offensive against Trump would be tough for Britain, which after Brexit is even more dependent on the United States. People protest against Trump's policy towards Greenland in front of the US consulate in Nuuk, Greenland, Saturday, Jan. 17, 2026.

CNN medical analyst Jonathan Reiner on Monday called for a congressional inquiry into Donald Trump’s “presidential fitness.”Reiner, who previously served as cardiologist to Vice President **** Cheney, pointed to Trump’s recent letter to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre as the reason. This letter, and the fact that the president directed that it be distributed to other European countries, should trigger a bipartisan congressional inquiry into presidential fitness. “The president seems to be struggling with excessive daytime somnolence,” Reiner wrote on X. “Repeatedly falling asleep with a dozen people surrounding your desk is not normal. It needs to be evaluated.”Related...Read the original on HuffPost

Renowned economist Paul Krugman this weekend laid out why he believes Donald Trump’s “weird” fixation on seizing Greenland had led to the president’s “stupidest” move yet. In his latest Substack newsletter, Krugman noted that Trump has threatened tariffs against eight European nations that have sent troops to the semiautonomous Danish territory as a “tripwire” against U.S. troops potentially opening fire on allies. Read the full analysis on Substack. Trump’s tariff threat, Krugman argued, is “basically a howl of frustration on the part of a mad dictator who has just realized that he can’t send in the Marines.”Advertisement AdvertisementAdvertisement AdvertisementThe Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences winner also pointed out that the targeted countries have previously struck trade deals with Trump and are now finding out that “a deal with Trump lasts until he feels like breaking it.”Related...Read the original on HuffPost
At a weekend performance, Bruce Springsteen dedicated a song to Renee Nicole Good, the Minneapolis woman who was fatally shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent in Minneapolis. Good, 37, who was a U.S. citizen and mother of three, was driving in Minneapolis on Jan. 7 when ICE agents circled her vehicle. The incident has sparked outrage and protests across the country, including from Philadelphia officials, who have called for ICE to leave Minneapolis. "As the mayor of that city has said, 'ICE should get the f--- out of Minneapolis,'" Springsteen said. "This song is for you in the memory of a mother of three, an American citizen, Renee Good."
With the NFL's conference championship games set — the Rams at Seattle following New England at Denver — three of the four possible Super Bowl permutations are rematches. And Seattle has played both combinations, beating the Broncos in the 2013 season and losing to the Patriots a year later. That was when Peyton Manning won his second ring, with his second franchise, then called it a career. There's a possibility that Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford could follow that blueprint. Still, Stafford will turn 38 the day before the Super Bowl, and it wouldn't be much of a curveball if that were his last game, especially if the Rams were to win.
