The government is about to publish the 10 Year Health Plan, the blueprint for its reform of the health service in England. Specifically, he said it would address the fact that “only 5% of medical school entrants are from a working-class background”. And of course, it reflects only one way of assessing the social background of those who apply to medical school. In short, there are lots of ways of measuring social disadvantage, including these and others, which may tell slightly different stories. You can follow the government’s performance against its promises on health, and in other areas, with our Government Tracker.

This is the Mayor’s Parlour, a self-contained suite designed by William Burges as part of a Victorian extension to the original medieval building. In Dover on the Kent Coast Top tip The quirky and cosy Lantern Inn near St Margaret’s Bay Who will love it? The wooden beds are deceptively comfy and the bathrooms top spec (I was particularly taken by our freestanding mustard-coloured tub). The restoration feat is astonishing and the finish immaculate, a five-star difference from the poor pilgrim’s hostel this once was. The other was that Mrs Brown had been recast, with Emily Mortimer taking on the role previously played by Sally Hawkins. Now, speaking to The Times, Hawkins has opened up about why she left her role, saying that it was entirely related to King's departure. But because I love Paul so much, and love the way he works, it would’ve broken my heart." Hawkins has known King a long time, having met him at a theatre workshop at Ealing Studios 20 years before the first Paddington film. The owner couldn’t be contacted after 4pm, so my daughter rang Airbnb. It was finally fixed after two sweaty nights, plus long calls to the Airbnb helpline, and Airbnb agreed to a partial refund. Fortunately they had taken photos, but despite this, Airbnb refused to remove the defamatory review. Airbnb had given my daughter a US customer service number with no warning and she assumed it was included in her roaming. Earlier dinner times have long been favoured among Brits, though, with a 2020 YouGov poll revealing most UK adults (34%) sit down to eat between 6-6.59pm. LONDON - Researchers at the University of Edinburgh said on Aug 6 they have discovered differences in the DNA of people with chronic fatigue syndrome that should help dispel the notion that the debilitating condition is psychological or driven by laziness. Their study found eight areas of genetic code that are different in people with myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) than in healthy volunteers. The DecodeME study analysed DNA samples from 15,579 people who reported having chronic fatigue on a questionnaire and 259,909 people without it, all of European descent. Scientists who were not involved in the study said using volunteers who self-reported chronic fatigue syndrome rather than restricting participation to those with a diagnosis from a medical professional somewhat weakened its conclusions.

The pressure on them is working,” Mr. Zelensky said in his evening address to the nation. “But the main thing is that they do not deceive us or the United States in the details.”Just a meeting with Mr. Trump would represent something of a victory for Mr. Putin. If the meeting goes ahead as Mr. Trump described, it would be the first in-person summit between an American and Russian president in more than four years. The last took place in June 2021 in Geneva, when President Joseph R. Biden Jr. met one-on-one with Mr. Putin. “The Russians expressed their desire to meet with President Trump, and the president is open to meeting with both President Putin and President Zelensky,” she said.

Despite the UK’s temporary exclusion from Horizon Europe, Europe’s flagship research programme, research ties held strong and the enthusiasm of our 39 universities for working together never diminished. UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) already work well together. They could also be targeted to boost German-UK collaborations within Horizon Europe – combining Europe’s largest research bases to leverage additional funding which neither can deliver alone. The treaty is an important step for government links and will support new partnerships between funders, universities, research teams and regulators on emerging and critical technologies. UK-German research links have led to breakthroughs in everything from quantum theory and AI to neuroscience, advanced materials and more.
