Andy Murray returned to Queen’s at the beginning of possibly the final grass-court season of his career with a solid win, producing a strong performance to defeat Alexei Popyrin 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 in the first round. Murray’s victory over Popyrin marks his 1,000th ATP match, a milestone that only four other active players have achieved and an indication of his enduring longevity despite his physical issues. It is also Murray’s first ATP match win since he injured his ankle at the Miami Open in March.

“Our economy has truly turned a corner,” Rishi Sunak, Britain’s prime minister, said last week as he introduced his party’s election manifesto, buoyed by recent data showing that Britain’s economy had exited from a recession more strongly than expected in the beginning of the year and that inflation had slowed substantially. Justifying the optimism, data released on Wednesday showed that consumer prices rose 2 percent in May from a year earlier, touching the Bank of England’s target for the first time since 2021. That was also way down from 11.1 percent in October 2022, when Mr. Sunak started his premiership. Polls suggest there is a desire to eject the governing Conservative Party from Downing Street, after 14 years, in next month’s general election. But lawmakers in the opposition Labour Party have already warned that — should they win — they will inherit a hobbled economy with little room for bold changes.

RISHI AND THE REST OF THE CONSERVATIVES SHOULD TAKE A BOW!! Progress towards a series of levelling up goals set by the UK government has been “glacial”, and achieving them by the target date of 2030 will require a big increase in resources for struggling areas, a leading thinktank has said. The Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) said that, on many measures, regional inequality had widened and the UK had gone into reverse. In 2022, the government set out a white paper containing 12 goals aimed at “levelling up” the UK. While praising the clarity and ambition of the plan, the thinktank said the Covid-19 pandemic and the cost of living crisis had combined to make the period since the last election, in 2019, a challenging time to make good on the Conservative party’s pledge to narrow the UK’s geographic divisions.

I draw the line at the spread of a technical “disease” they call QR codes. For those who don’t know, they are those little squares of patterned black ink that seem to be appearing everywhere these days. We had to scan a QR code to order some more! I’ve read that QR codes can also be a danger when it comes to having your data stolen. Excuse me while I scan a QR code for a full definition of “quishing”.

Labour has ‘further to go on child poverty’The Labour Party needs to go “much much further” in tackling child poverty, a shadow cabinet member has admitted. Speaking to reporters in Swindon, the Labour leader said: “There’s not much difference between the SNP and the Tories. The Labour leader said: “When the material came to light, we acted on it straight away and they’re suspended as a candidate. A Labour spokesman said: “Andy Brown has been administratively suspended from the Labour Party pending investigation. The California Prune Board, an organisation championing the consumption of prunes for their health benefits, suggest that food manufacturers use the dried fruit as a natural alternative to processed sugar. Using naturally sweet California Prunes as a sugar (and even fat replacement) in foods can further benefit manufacturers looking to improve the nutritional profile of products. Prunes have a proven European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) health claim thanks to the fibre they contain, which states eating 100g of prunes daily contributes to normal bowel function. Furthermore, a recent white paper supported by Whitworths also outlines the benefits of nuts, seeds and dried fruit as a healthier alternative to ultra-processed snacks. Adults should have no more than 30g of added sugar and children should have no more than 24g per day.”Reference1 https://www.theguardian.com/society/2024/jan/24/child-obesity-in-england-still-above-pre-pandemic-levels-study-finds

Speaking from my own experience as a clinician, there is nothing healthcare professionals want more than time. The amount of ‘administrivia’ they must perform on a daily basis is beyond frustrating. I remember how, after completing a two-hour angiography procedure on a patient, I would spend another 25-30 minutes documenting what I had just done. The supporting nurse, the angio technician, the anesthesiologist – all of us sat in our own corner of the room afterwards, typing away at our reports. By having such an intelligent ‘eye in the room’, we can make easy and effortless what used to be time-consuming.

EA's Skate might have Tim Robinson, but the skating game where I played a demon on a quest to eat the Moon is my most anticipated Tony Hawk-like this yearThere are, of course, two skating games on the horizon right now. One of them is a new Skate (written 'skate.' You know, skating game stuff, done with aplomb both aesthetically and mechanically. (Image credit: Devolver)Which, given that I've never really been much good at skating games, was mostly a matter of repeatedly kickflipping. It feels like a smart mix-up of the traditional skating game formula in a way that will still see you scrambling to master all the different tricks and combos that are available.

I set my alarm for 11pm so that I can arrive at the Thurgood Marshall Courthouse every day between midnight and 3am, to make sure I am one of only four reporters allowed into courtroom 318 to witness the trial of Ghislaine Maxwell. I know from my newsroom colleagues that journalists need to arrive extremely early for high-profile trials if we want to secure one of the seats in the press gallery. With these kinds of cases, the courts set up a series of “overflow rooms”, where reporters can watch video feeds from a separate, empty courtroom. But I am not in the least bit interested in that — I am going to be in the room if it kills me. • How Ghislaine Maxwell’s
