Last weekend, I went to Manifest 2024, which was like a cross between a summer camp and a family reunion. I wasn’t surprised that Manifest attracted media interest, but I was taken aback by the shabbiness of Jason Wilson and Ali Winston’s report for the Guardian. The Guardian article makes several basic factual errors. A recent Guardian article about events hosted at our conference venue Lighthaven is full of simple factual inaccuracies. Events like Manifest allow society’s gadflies to defend themselves, rather than to be punished for their beliefs.

The Dutch duo locked horns in the Eredivisie as Slot led Feyenoord and Ten Hag guided Ajax. Last season, both United and Liverpool operated with a manager who had a big say on all aspects of the club. Reports have suggested this has been met with uneasiness by Ten Hag as he looks to negotiate a new contract with the United boardroom. "I don't think there is much of a change between a head coach and a manager, it's just that by being a head coach I can go in fully to the things I would like to do. Allowing to alleviate some of the pressure on the United manager is the only way we will see the best of both him and in turn, the club.

It was a disturbing echo of Gamergate, an online harassment campaign 10 years ago that initially sprung from the wild accusations of a game developer’s vindictive ex-boyfriend. Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ executive producer Marc-Alexis Côté addressed Musk’s tweet in an interview with Game File’s Stephen Totilo (£) last week. If Gamergate proved anything, it’s that nobody has to pander to rage-baiting toxic gamers, or even listen to them. Games such as Kerbal Space Program, Subnautica (pictured above), even Baldur’s Gate 3 benefited hugely from releasing in early access. But should developers change a game for the players to the extent that they compromise on their original creative vision?

New teaching material in Texas is set to introduce under-11s to the cultural importance of Christianity and the Bible. Among other things, elementary school children will learn about the Christian allegories contained in the writing of CS Lewis, and read the biblical text that inspired one of Leonardo DaVinci’s most famous paintings. Local school districts that adopt the material, expected to be approved later this year and available for use from August 2025, will receive $60 in state funding per pupil. The lesson plan continues: “According to the Bible, Jesus offers his life to save others, dies, and is resurrected. Aslan offers his life to save Edmund, the traitor.

'Chat control' is sometimes used to refer to the EU Commission's entire proposed regulation, but in a narrower sense it refers to a part of the draft regulation that 'may require communications service providers to monitor private communications. Messenger and email service providers are subject to the EUePrivacy Directive , which prohibits them from monitoring users' private communications in principle. Threema, a messaging service operating in the EU, has stated that its service will be subject to the proposed chat control, and has strongly criticized the proposed regulation, arguing that it will inevitably violate human rights through surveillance.
