CAIRO – 23 July 2021: Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a congratulatory telegram to his Egyptian counterpart, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, as Egypt celebrates the 69th anniversary of the 23rd of July Revolution. “Dear friend, please accept sincere congratulations on the occasion of the 69th anniversary of the July revolution of 1952,” Putin wrote in the telegram. “Russia highly values relations with Egypt, developing in the spirit of strategic partnership,” he added. The Egyptian July 23 Revolution took place on 23 July, 1952 by the Free Officers Movement, a group of army officers led by Mohamed Naguib and Gamal Abdel Nasser, who later became presidents. The revolution overthrew King Farouk’s regime and abolished monarchy.
