Sri Lanka’s finance minister Basil Rajapaksa is scheduled to meet top Indian ministers on Wednesday as the two countries look at increasing collaboration, Indian media reported. Basil Rajapaksa had arrived in New Delhi on Tuesday. In New Delhi, Basil Rajapaksa will meet finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Indian foreign minister S Jaishankar. Since last year, the Sri Lankan government has made at least one request for a $1.1 billion currency swap. New Delhi so far has not made it clear whether it will accede to the Sri Lankan request, the report said.

Two members of the personal staff of Public Security Minister Rear Admiral (Retd.) Dr. Sarath Weerasekera and Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Minister Douglas Devananda have allegedly tried to recover a stock of gold buried by the LTTE in the Puthukkudiyiruppu area, on 25 November, according to media reports. He also said that the Police have been instructed by Dr. Weerasekera to conduct an impartial inquiry into the incident. Union Health Ministry on Sunday revised guidelines for international arrivals in India which will be effective from December 1. The guidelines require passengers to submit the self-declaration form on the online Air Suvidha Portal before the scheduled travel and to submit the last 14 days travel details. The guidelines also mandated the uploading of negative RT-PCR test reports on the Air Suvidha portal before the journey. As per Health Ministry’s guidelines, travellers from ‘countries at-risk’ will need to take the COVID-19 test post-arrival and wait for results at the airport. The existing guidelines have been revised in view of reporting of a new variant of SARS-CoV-2 (B.1.1.529; named Omicron) which has now been classified as a Variant of Concern by the World Health Organization.

EU Court rejects move to lift ban on LTTE View(s):The European Union’s General Court this week rejected an appeal to lift the proscription of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) as an international terrorist organisation within Europe. They had applied to annul the relisting of the LTTE as a terrorist organisation by the European Council in January 2019, ten years after the military defeat of the LTTE. The European Council had held that in 2019 that the LTTE’s “international fundraising and revival capacities remained” despite its military defeat ten years earlier. The LTTE was first listed as a terrorist organisation by the EU in 2006. The Court rejected multiple pleas lodged by the LTTE branch in Denmark before dismissing the action in full.
