ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has imposed a 25 percent sales tax on locally manufactured or assembled cars above 1400 cc or worth Rs 40 lakh. The revised SRO has been issued through a notification issued by FBR. According to FBR’s estimate, this decision will generate revenue of 4 to 4.5 billion rupees on an annual basis. According to the notification, there will be a 25% sales tax on vehicles of more than 1400 cc or vehicles worth more than 40 lakh rupees manufactured or assembled within the country. Earlier, the caretaker government’s federal cabinet and ECC had approved the levy of 25 percent sales tax.
Tensions flared in the National Assembly on Friday as the Pakistan Threek-e-Insaf (PTI), the opposition party, staged a protest during the oath-taking ceremony of four lawmakers elected on reserved seats. Ruby Gwendolyn “Gwen” Burton, 92, of Clay, passed away on March 5, 2024. Gwen was born on April 19, 1931, to Lacy Bob and Grace Wood in Jefferson County, AL. She met Ted Burton at Woodlawn High School in Birmingham, and they married on January 28, 1950, during their senior year. She is survived by her husband, Ted; two sons, Robert (Connie) Burton and Larry (Sharon) Burton; four grandchildren, Jimmy (Heather) Burton, April (Scott) Weed, Daniel (Meg) Burton, and Matthew Burton; and several great-grandchildren. The graveside service will be held on March 9, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. in the Atonement Garden section at Jefferson Memorial Cemetery.

Kyle Hayden Lewter, 36, is charged in the death of Derek Franklin Wells, 54. Lewter is charged with murder and is being held in jail without bond in accordance with Aniah’s Law. According to court documents, he was arrested last year for DUI and driving on the wrong side of a highway in downtown Huntsville. Lewter is considered innocent of the murder charge until proven guilty.

Jared Hester of Trussville won two silver ADDY awards in the competition where students are given the opportunity to submit pieces from their portfolios to a variety of categories. His awards were in the Art Direction Campaign category for the studio 207 Brand Book and the Film, Video and Sound Animation or Special Effects category for a Meta Quest commercial. The competition is held annually by the American Advertising Federation, the oldest national advertising trade association in the United States. Troy University Graphic Design students won multiple Gold and Silver awards along with Best of Show and Student Designer of the Year.
