LAHORE – The Punjab Specialized Healthcare Department has extended the date for submitting applications for the posts of deans and principal of the medical colleges. According to the PSH spokesperson here on Wednesday, the date was extended due to Eid-ul-Azha vacation. Now the online applications for the posts could be submitted till July 22. No application would be received manually. The applications have been sought for the posts of heads of of Allama Iqbal Medical College, Quaid-e-Azam Medical, Nishtar Medical College, Rawalpindi Medical College, Punjab Medical College and Institute of Public Health.

In yet another success on the diplomatic front, Pakistan on Wednesday once again thwarted India’s bid for permanent seat in United Nations Security Council (UNSC). Pakistan s position on permanent membership in the United Nations was recognized, while, the Arab League and the African Union also supported Pakistan’s position. Two-thirds majority is required for permanent membership in the Security Council. India does not have the support of half the members to become a permanent member of the UNSC. New Delhi has always violated UN resolutions and is also involved in serious human rights violations in occupied Kashmir.

Pakistan’s top performing startup, Airlift, announced on Tuesday that it had permanently shut operations in the country after day-to-day running finances dried up and an attempt to raise fresh funds failed last week. “While the global recession and recent downturn in capital markets has affected economic activity across the board, it has had a devastating impact on Airlift and rendered its shutdown inevitable. The US dollar on Wednesday gained value against the rupee in the first session after the holidays, the Pakistani rupee (PKR) dropped over two rupees in the interbank market, according to Mettis Link News. The last close of Pakistani rupee was 207.91 per USD. The rupee is now trading at 209.94/210.10 with open market trading at 210 per USD. The exchange rates of Emirates Dirham and Saudi Riyal increased by 60 paisas to close at Rs57.20 and Rs55.97 respectively. Since the beginning of the last fiscal year (July 1, 2021), the rupee has dropped by a massive 33.36% (or Rs52.56) compared to the previous fiscal year’s close at Rs157.54.

The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) in India has submitted a 100-page charge sheet against six people, including Prashanta Kumar Halder, better known as PK Halder, and his two agencies in a fraud case. The charge sheet was filed in a special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court in Kolkata on Tuesday. Notably, PK Halder was arrested along with five others during several raids by the Directorate of Enforcement (ED), under the Ministry of Finance of India, in West Bengal on May 12. The ED found PK Halder’s assets worth 300 crore Rupees in India and 86 bank accounts during their interrogations and drives at different places in West Bengal. ED lawyer Arijit Chakraborty said the agency filed a charge sheet against six persons, including PK Halder, and two agencies under the 3 Prevention of Money Laundering Act of the Indian Penal Code.

FAISALABAD – Three people were killed in different incidents in and around the city during the last 24 hours. In a road accident, a rashly driven bus hit a rickshaw near Paradise Valley-I, on Sheikhupura road and as a result of which, Waheed, resident of Chak No 198, Munianwala died on the spot while Zeeshan sustained injuries. The injured was rushed to hospital. In another incident, Nadeem Jaffar was tortured to death by a family in Chak No 404, in the limits of Sadr police Tandlianwala. Police have shifted the body to the mortuary for postmortem and collected forensic evidence from the crime scene and started investigation.
