Nepali Congress lawmaker Gyan Kumari Chhantyal died on Wednesday morning in Nepal, Kathmandu she was 63 years old. Gyan Kumari ChhantyalKumari was getting treatment at Sahid Gangalal National Heart Centre in Kathmandu where she last breathed today. Gyan was born in Tamankhola rural Municipality-5 of Baglung. Her funeral rites will be performed at Pashupati Aryaghat at 1 pm today her son said. Kumari was elected the lawmaker of the main opposition Nepali Congress under proportional representation from Baglung.

The government on Wednesday announced a public holiday across the country on the 9th and 10th Muharram. According to the notification, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved the two-day public holiday for Ashura on 8 and 9 August 2022 (Monday and Tuesday). “It is for general information that the Prime Minister is pleased to declare 8th and 9th August 2022 (Monday and Tuesday) as public holidays on the occasion of Ashura (9th & 10th Muharram 1444 AH). According to the notification, all private and government offices, educational institutes, businesses, and other activities would remain shut during the two days.

After eight long years, the ECP finally announced its decision on Tuesday in relation to PTI’s foreign funding case as it gave a unanimous verdict that the PTI did indeed receive prohibited funding and issued a notice to the party asking why the funds should not be confiscated. A three-member ECP bench headed by Chief Election Commissioner Sikander (CEC) Sultan Raja announced the verdict where it was revealed that the political party received funds from 34 foreign nationals and 351 companies based outside the country. In relation to the recent story featured in the Financial Times, the verdict also confirmed that the party knowingly and wilfully received funding from Wootton Cricket Limited, operated by business tycoon Arif Naqvi. Those that vociferously criticise other political parties for supposed wrongdoings or corrupt practices must do the same in this case, because it is a matter of principle. The PTI can ask for other parties to be investigated for foreign funding, but even if they are found to be guilty, it would not change the reality that the PTI was on the receiving end of prohibited funds and lied about it.
