The Caretaker govt is set to raise petroleum product prices following a recent hike in electricity costs. The proposed increases are Rs 4.50 per liter for gasoline, Rs 2.50 for diesel, and Rs 2.92 for kerosene, with light diesel oil prices remaining unchanged. This decision comes after the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) approved a Rs 7.05 per unit rise in electricity prices due to higher fuel costs, adding an estimated Rs 66 billion burden on consumers. The increase in fuel prices is linked to the surge in global crude oil prices, now at $82.52 per barrel. Scheduled to be announced by the Finance Minister after consultation with the Prime Minister, the new fuel prices will take effect from March 1st, 2024, until March 15th.

During the clash, Superintendent of Police (SP) Ijaz Khan was martyred with DSP Naseem Khan along with two other police officials injured. The slain terrorists were identified as Hasan Qadeer Yousafzai, alias Mohsin Qadeer, and his aide Abbas alias Essa. The militants were part of the TTP Haris group, which joined the group in 2011. The SP's body and the injured were immediately shifted to the Mardan Medical Complex (MMC) and another medical facility in the area. Ijaz’s funeral was performed at the Police Line Mardan earlier, where DIG Region Sulaiman Khan, Commissioner Shaukat Khan Yousafzai, and Deputy Commissioner Fayaz Sher Pavon paid tribute to the martyr.

The Pakistan Army shot down another Indian spying quadcopter that intruded into the country’s airspace along the Line of Control (LoC), the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Wednesday. “On February 25, Pakistan army has downed an Indian spy drone which was violating the Line of Control,” the statement read. According to the ISPR, the incident took place at 12:55pm, however, after hitting down the quadcopter of Indian Army, the Pakistan Army started searching for its remains. The quadcopter also bears the insignia of an Indian Army unit which confirms that the quadcopter belongs to the Indian Army, the statement added.
