The seven-part podcast series digs deep on issues such as technology, climate, diversity and inclusion. Presenting a podcast is new for IoD’s CEO Patterson who is more accustomed to being in front of a live audience giving speeches. For years, we knew the 50-seater aircraft as the Bombardier Q300. But in 1986, it was privatised, with its aircraft production facilities and products sold to Boeing. Air New Zealand purchased its first Q300 in 2005, and its last in 2009, when Bombardier ceased production of the aircraft. But they’re no longer called the Bombardier Q300 – in fact, the aircraft has now come full circle. Though Air New Zealand told Stuff Travel they usually just refer to the aircraft as the Q300, presumably to keep things simple.

According to the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand’s (REINZ) House Price Index, New Zealand house prices have declined nearly 13% from their November 2021 peak. Corelogic property economist, Kelvin Davidson, believes the Reserve Bank’s uber aggressive monetary tightening, which has lifted the official cash rate (OCR) to 4.25%, means that house prices and sales volumes will likely not bounce back until 2024. “It’s definitely a serious property downturn and more to come, for sure.”Davidson pointed out that there would only be 67,000 or 68,000 residential property sales this year, which is the lowest number since 2010. He pointed to ANZ’s forecast that New Zealand house prices would fall 18% peak-to-trough in nominal terms, and by 27% in real terms (i.e. Perhaps now FOHIR (fear of higher interest rates) will manifest in a sharper downturn than we all expect”, Workman said.

Investigation into vehicles involved in crashes, badly repaired and soldThe agency in charge of the country’s land transport system has confirmed investigations are ongoing into vehicles which have likely been in crashes, badly repaired, warranted and sold without the purchaser knowing. A spokesperson for NZ Transport Agency said an investigation was underway into the poor repair work on vehicles which resulted in their warrant of fitness being revoked. The transport agency has the power to prosecute a person or company for breaches of legislation it is responsible for. “Waka Kotahi [New Zealand Transport Agency] began investigating several vehicles that were reported to have been involved in accidents and not repaired properly around July 2021,” the spokesperson said. The transport agency might inspect vehicles following accidents and crashes at the request of the police but did not capture data on every car involved in a crash as it did not typically inspect vehicles following an accident.
